Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible
... View MoreWhile it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
... View MoreThe storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
... View MoreThe film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
... View MoreThis one had to grow on me a bit. The first viewing, I thought it sucked. Then after thinking about it, and watching a couple of online reviews to learn others perspective of it, I watched this a second time, and it set a little better with me. I still don't think it's a great entry in this series, as it does still feel wildly out of place, it's worthwhile checking out. My biggest problem with this one is that we keep waking up and realising the previous moments were all a dream. In the earliest Hellraisers, we knew what they were experiencing was real, not imagined. Physical, not psychological. Here, we go off into Jacob's Ladder territory for most of its duration, and learn this character is in his own mental Hell, forced to relive his mistakes for eternity. An odd new direction for the series, and while it's not entirely a success, it isn't a complete misfire, either. Just don't go into it expecting it to match the tone of previous entries. Pinhead, in his two brief appearances, appears almost glowing white. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it's a great effect.
... View MoreUpon first viewing, I disliked this film for being so different but then again I watched it 5 years later and actually think differently of it. A shady police detective becomes embroiled in a strange world of murder, sadism and madness after being assigned a murder investigation against a madman known only as "The Engineer" and I must say, this is a good film, it's not awful like some may say, but I will say that there will be times in which you think "Wait...it's been several minutes already, where's pinhead?" This movie is different compared to 3 and 4 and is alike to the 1st and 2nd films. Pinhead is your typical Priest of hell and is NOT your typical bad guy like he was portrayed in 3 and 4. He doesn't go around creating Cenobites to go hunt down the Lead Actor, he however psychologically messes with our lead character (Joseph Thorne)of which he soon comes to the realization of the horrifying events that are unfolding around him. This is a good film but I believe they could of done a bit more to make it more interesting than what it was. I'd like to give it a 5 out of 10 but feel as though it's not that Great, so I'll be giving it a 3 out of 10.
... View MoreThe first Hellraiser that moved completely away from the story so far. The only thing that returns is of course Doug Bradley as pinhead. What we do have is Craig Sheffer of Nightbreed (1990) fame as the investigating copper. The flick itself isn't that bad after all if you don't see it as a Hellraiser flick. If pinhead should be replaced with another demon it would be great but for a Hellraiser flick it didn't satisfy. Why, because it's all about Det. Joseph Thorne (Sheffer) going berserk in his mind due a crime he didn't commit but it all looks like he is the killer. The box he found naturally made him go mad because he resurrect the cenobites. here in inferno they aren't called cenobites and pinhead isn't called pinhead. On part of the gore, there isn't really any and it's low on hell too, so pinhead do appears in the beginning for a few seconds but it almost is waiting until the end before he returns. And it's also the ending that is worth seeing because it's a dream in a dream in a dream until you even don't know what you see. Pinhead do s his one-liners at the end and the cenobites did look fine. But it's a whole different thing that we were used to see in the franchise. Still worth seeing and above mediocre.Gore 0,5/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2,5/5 Comedy 0/5
... View MoreIts no secret that this franchise has become somewhat mistreated as of late. Some of them better than others. This is one that I would consider to be on the better side of the line. Being made in the year 2000 puts this movie in danger of having too much computer generated imagery. Surprisingly, the CGI in this movie is done more tastefully than many modern movies and works well with the nightmarish story. This movie feels authentic with the appearance of original Pinhead actor Doug Bradley. Though his appearances are few in this rendition his presence is looming, sophisticated, and frightening as ever. The plot of this movie works well and follows the lore of the more respectable Hellraiser stories. I give this film 5 bags of popcorn! For a truly captivating experience try watching this film in your childhood home.
