... View MoreExcellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
... View MoreFollowing his wife's accidental death in a car accident, a man tries to uncover the truth about what happened only to find the cause of a series of violent hallucination a part of a much large plan of action. This here is a highly enjoyable and far underrated effort. One of the better elements with this is the incredibly deep mystery traveling throughout this, which is far greater than expected. Not only is the change of what actually happened quite shocking, how it goes about getting there is insanely inspired by building such a strong case for the husband to be responsible and how it changes that around into a secondary plot-point is a major strength here. This also ties into the film's biggies plus throughout her which is the unbelievably chilling and well-done amount of psychological tormenting going throughout this one. Unlike the previous effort which also tried to utilize the psychological aspect, this one outdoes that by making the whole thing come from the idea of twisting around the perception of reality by starting off one way only to twist them into a series of nightmarish visions or some kind of action that really shouldn't be doing that. That's an incredibly chilling tactic which doesn't get utilized all that much so being done in conjunction with the rather creepy and highly disturbing storyline trick which makes for a thoroughly enjoyable ale here and one which is highly rewarding and watchable throughout. Beyond the creepiness here, the film also manages to make due with some rather nice blood and gore for each of the kills in this, and there's plenty here with the deformed corpses and mutilation from the tortures making for a lot of fun. These are enough to make for a rather entertaining effort, though there's a few flaws within this one that holds it down. The biggest issue is the rather short screen-time the Cenobites actually have, which is barely a few short shots while Pinhead at least has a couple different scenes to work out. The other here don't even have that luxury which tends to make the impression that they're so irrelevant to the story they were written into another film altogether as this one doesn't really feel all that connected to the rest of the series. As well, the other big flaw here is the fact that the twist here involving the secondary twist makes no sense as for why it would be accepted knowing the past history of everything, and why they would is quite puzzling. Otherwise, it's all that's really wrong with this one.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Brief Nudity, and several clothed sex scenes.
... View MoreThe original Hellraiser was an innovative, twisted bit of filmmaking that stands up today as one of the great horror films. This one is certainly a mixed bag as it's quite watchable and has lots of screwy visuals; despite the fact it feels a little off-kilter and for the most part doesn't make much sense. What we get in HELLSEEKER is a series of events, where some kind of violence or demonic activity occurs, only for Trevor to wake, finding it was all a dream, or a hallucination. Sometimes we have him waking up after he has already awoken. Wow, dreams within dreams. All these non-events are supposed to be deep, showing us that Trevor isn't a nice guy, there are some interesting ideas (and I really like the tone they set in the opening, but it doesn't last); but it's only really for fans of the series. The other films in the series are: Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Hellraiser: Inferno, Hellraiser: Deader, Hellraiser: Hellworld.
... View MoreI really don't understand why some critics are claiming this is one of the better sequels in this franchise. This is the most boring and least interesting entry in my opinion. With every sequel it seems to go away from being a actual "Hellraiser" movie. The constant hallucinations is overdone and the unfaithful husband deal was already done in the 5th installment. I just couldn't really comprehend the direction of this movie and not in a good way either. It basically seemed like a horror tale from "Tales from the Crypt" or one of those "8 Films to Die For". Sure, the movie is about facing your demons and such, but it has been done before and better in the previous installments. This movie just didn't have much going on, so it just has bunch of hallucinations thrown in it with Pinhead basically just showing up at the very end mostly. If certain "Hellraiser" elements weren't in this movie, this movie by itself would be crap. I personally think it's because I saw the other "Hellraiser" movies that I am being lenient with this one. Because by itself, this movie is just garbage. I thought this would be a decent installment since Ashley Laurence is making a return in this as Kirsty Cotton Gooden who was in the first 2 "Hellraiser" movies. I don't know why she even bothered to be in this one besides for the paycheck. She is almost non-existent in this flick and I thought it would be Kirsty facing her demons one more time. The focus is far away from Pinhead and the cenobites as a matter of fact, it just seems like they are just something just tagged onto this flick. At least the 5th installment had psychedelic visuals. This movie sucks and it sucks even more that Kirsty is wasted in this. I give this a 2.3, because the ending is cool I guess.2.3/10
... View MoreA slight improvement from its predecessor but definitely not on par with any of the other films in the franchise. Sure it was great to see Kirsty Cotten once again, but the storyline was simply too "out-there" and simply not Hellraiser status.I guess my problem with this film is how it just confused the heck out of me. I am not sure if this was done on purpose or it was lack of experience by the director or even a screenwriter. Overall, this film is okay. I wouldn't say it is the worst installment in the franchise, but it is definitely far from the best.. well.. not even close to the top five. If you have some spare time that you don't care to have back, take this film for a ride and see how you like it. Maybe you'll feel different about it than I do.
