Good story, Not enough for a whole film

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Terrible. All elements of a teenager horror movie. history without any sense, weak performances, left the true story of the film. That movie reminded me of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The Hellraiser franchise has undergone a series of misfires from poor scripts, plots and characterization as it goes toe to toe with Friday the 13th for bad sequels. In surprised at this point Doug Bradly wants his name associated with This unless he really needed work. The movie plays on the current trend of video games based on the movie Hellraiser. You have the breakfast club of a jock, out caste, criminal and pretty girl all mourning the lost of their friend who was addicted to the game and mysteriously died a year ago. They head inside the world of the game looking for clues at a party in a mansion that looks it was taken straight out of a Scooby doo cartoon. The plot thickens as Lance Henrisken, the father, who wants the punish the kids for not saving his son and places them in coffins underneath the ground. It had more jokes then swish cheese from the villains motives, his plans, who are the other party goers and leaves it open on if pinhead is real or not?The characters were one dimensional stereotypes who you never feel sympathy for or care what happens to them. Its confused on What it wants to be a horror thriller, comedy from the absurdity on the while project or a porno from the graphic nudity they through in for the heck of It.Hellraiser has fallen away into direct to video category for good reason.

"It's just like a bad horror movie, isn't it?" This line of dialogue is spoken by Lance Henriksens character in the movie, and the answer is, "No, it IS a bad horror movie". Bad acting, bad dialogue, nonsensical and threadbare plot, irritating music and more boobs than blood make for poor watching. The Hellraiser sequels are noted only for showing the full horror of what bad Hollywood movie studios can do with a great idea. Several of these movies were unrelated scripts with Hellraiser themes and characters crow-barred in. Poor show. 1 star only because Doug Bradley appears as Pinhead, but even that can't save this rubbish. If I had to say something good about it, I would say its notable for being an early lead role for Katheryn Winnick, who currently plays Lagertha in Vikings. Avoid this movie......unless you enjoyed Stay Alive (!)

Summoned to a house for a party, a group of friends learn that they're stay is part of a ploy to unleash the Cenobites on them by a vengeful father and must try to find a way to prevent that from happening. This is easily one of the most underrated and enjoyable entries in the series. Perhaps more than in any of the other sequels thus far, this one manages to really find a way of getting the Cenobites onto screen in a great way. The concept of the video game and tying that into the history of the series as the means for revenge here is pretty creative and really has some good points her, as this manages to work in the presence of the box and its history, the Cenobites and the realness of the legacy here gives this a really good impression. That also extends to the more impressive attributes here in the incredibly impressive and exciting action scenes that not only feature some really memorable moments but also gives an added sense of suspense to the proceedings. The different encounters with the Cenobites here are just part of the fun that really makes for exciting set-pieces throughout with the use of the house helping in the fun. From the jars of fluid filled with specimens resembling the group to the attack with the hook in the ceiling and he mysterious women at the party to lure them away into the torture rooms, it all makes for some good times that also gets the suspense really nicely for all these rather impressive scenes. That this is done along with the utterly fantastic finale which has so much to really like, with the series of frantic races around the different levels of the house to being confronted with the various hallucinatory attacks that are afflicted throughout here, the chilling action with the confrontations to the full revelation in the graveyard which all throughout this one manages to put the plot together into one of the more enjoyable aspects of this one. The other big plus here is the fact that this one gets Pinhead and the Cenobites onto the film quite earl which is a great sign but also means that the blood and gore here is rather messy and gruesome while getting their tortures in. There's really only one thing that holds this down which is the fact that so many of those tortures seem to be lifted directly from other films at that time and don't really have that much of a connection to actions undertaken by the creatures in the past who would just kill in one singular manner without being really creative about it. Otherwise, this was quite a bit of fun.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Nudity, Graphic Language and several sex scenes.
