Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I found this film by chance, and was very pleased, asi like werewolves and i like trains. spoiler alert. this film is simple, but effective, follows the myth of the were wolf, loosely, but to good effect, its as good as dog soldiers ,which also like, has many different characters who react in different ways, not always predictable. well filmed, didnt feel cheap and the acting is good for a horror film,i plan to buy the dvd, to keep it in my collection

Read the title of this horror and you know already what it's about anyway. Nothing like a good werewolf movie from time to time. Although there's still a certain shortage of decent films when it comes to this genre. The last (for me personally) successful werewolf movie that I watched, was "Wer". On the other hand you'll see some abominably bad attempts like "Wolves" and "Night Wolf". "Howl", a movie from the UK, may not be as good as "An American Werewolf in London", but still managed to surprise me. And although it's a low-budget film, you can say that the look of the creatures terrorizing the passengers of the stranded train was successful. Probably the used anatomy will ensure a bit of protest by the followers of the genre, because it seemed like a mix of a wolf and the creature from "Splice." But that first attack with a bloody close-up took my breath away. Brilliant makeup and special effects. They looked at least less ridiculous than the furry creatures of "Late Phases" (a movie in which the acting impressed) with their ears decorated with tassels. The progress of "Howl" is well considered and balanced. First a comprehensive introduction of all the characters. The middle section with the threatening situation they find themselves in. Followed by the final confrontation with the necessary victims and a predictable turn. Don't be surprised when some of the individuals make some stupid decisions again. However, the end might be a little surprising. Unfortunately, the look of the night creatures, when you can admire them in full regalia, isn't so convincing or frightening. To be honest they looked like individuals who returned from some kind of masked ball. But believe me, the first confrontation was bloody and ruthless. Sheer aggression focused on the terrible creature that struck in a deadly and gruesome way shortly before. Not only the suspense and tension was a positive element in this film. The performances were enjoyable. A collection of colorful characters displaying that typical reserved British attitude. It surprised me they weren't having a tea break while being attacked by those animals. First, there's Joe (Ed Speleers), an undervalued train guard, whose life is an accumulation of setbacks and adversities. He is despised by colleagues and passengers see him as an incapable figure. His colleague Ellen (Holly Weston) ignores his romantic moves. Kate (Shauna Macdonald) hated Joe the first instance after she had to pay for a new ticket. Adrian (Elliot Cowan) is a cocky guy who in the end just tries to save his own neck. Nina (Rosie Day) is a spoiled brat. And then there's this elderly couple, who won't hide their outrage about the delay, a nerd-like young boy (Amit Shah), an engineer in the making (Sam Gittins) and an obese, lazy football player (Calvin Dean). The introduction sometimes is comical and highly recognizable. Not only the werewolves provide for the eerie atmosphere. But also the location where the train gets stuck with its dark woods and the typical English fog banks, create a creepy mood. The origin of the creatures isn't explained in detail. Only the older man is aware of other mythical stories about broken down trains and passengers disappearing or being found in a pitiful state. But otherwise, you can only guess where these fast-paced, immensely strong and bloodthirsty creatures come from. Despite being a typical B-movie and the fact that I thought Paul Hyett's film "The seasoning house" was slightly better, this film is worthwhile to give it a try. It's not a top film with werewolves as subject, but it certainly is a movie that can compete with the better ones in this genre.More reviews here : http://bit.ly/1KIdQMT

I should have known it's a waste of time watching a horror film of British extraction: they're notoriously mediocre, often quite boring. The horror flick that wants to be more a character study than to deliver thrills, which already reveals the director's inferiority complex. You see, he'd probably much rather direct dramas, but is "forced" to do some horror films first to get his foot in the door. Or something like that. The baby wants Oscars and other hollow accolades, as they all do. It's as if only egomaniacs and insecure losers go into film these days. There's the usual nonsense we associate with this type of horror flick. For one thing, the Britishers are more concerned with arguing and fighting each other than battling the monsters – to the extent where they want to actually kill each other, which only makes the film dumb as well as dull. But the award for Dumbest Scene In A 2015 British Horror Film goes to the scene when the stewardess reaches a station – all bloodied and scared (her, not the station) – and yet everyone there ignores her. A pretty daft touch to round off a fairly forgettable and unoriginal flick.Besides, is there nothing better to do than yet another predictable, unoriginal monsters-on-the-loose story? No other plot ideas? Might as well change one's job from film-maker back to pizza-delivery-boy if the height of your creativity is the zillionth version of a monster killing off passengers of a bus/train/airplane/bicycle/whatever. Boy meets girl? Nobody gives a hoot about that in a horror film. The British really need to stick to what they do best: comedy. No, wait. They suck at that too now.

Howl (2015) directed by Paul Hyett is a horror film rooted in the werewolf sub genre. the plot revolves around a group of characters who are attacked by a werewolf when their train breaks down in the middle of nowhere. they must all try to band together and survive the night.obviously the plot is nothing special. its pretty generic but it does allow the director to build some tension here and there and create some atmosphere. surprisingly though this film ends up being more of a gore fest than a spooky atmosphere drenched werewolf tale. rightfully so though, they had a decent little budget to show off some gruesome gore effects and it all looked great. so just a touch of atmosphere and loads of gore work pretty well for this film. but it does definitely limit it, causing it to fall short of being more than just a notch above average. what made films like the howling and an American werewolf in London so good was the healthy balance of gore and atmosphere, howl on the other hand just goes for the gore. the acting is OK, and the characters are all pretty likable with the exception of the generic idiot characters of course. the setting is pretty spooky but as I have already mentioned, its not used to its full potential. the film does also drag a little bit once things get going. its pretty understandable considering the plot is pretty thin. its a difficult task to make the plot go anywhere and create some great scenes without making the characters all stupid and unlikable.overall id say Howl (2015) is worth the watch and is a memorable werewolf flick. although it has its issues it has some good gore and some pretty decent creature designs and a few cool scenes, as well as a touch of atmosphere.the verdict: 6.5/10
