In a seedy bar in a town ravaged by war, scientist and businessman Hunt hires mercenary and former Royal Marine D.C. to assemble a crack team of ex-soldiers to protect him on a dangerous journey into no-man's land. Their mission is to scope out an old military bunker in Eastern Europe. It should be easy – 48 hours at the most. Lots of cash for little risk. Or so he says...

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

I first bought this as it was a pound in a DVD store.Went home and put this in and expected something ridiculous i can watch for a laugh, something akin to Romero's Land of the Dead.I started watching this and as it progressed i couldn't help get dragged in and start rooting for the characters. It felt a bit rushed and with a few scenes of Over-acting. but they make up for it in Action and gore! The ending set up the next film nicely as well, but i won't ruin it for anyone.if you watch this i would definitely recommend watching the next 2, even though 2 is a bit off beat.

This film deserves a lot of praise just for effort alone. It delivers EXACTLY what it says on the tin, and is a lot of fun. What more could you ask?The setup is great, and the location is perfect. They get a lot of mileage and suspense out of a near-empty field and some gloomy corridors. The performances are good all-round, and the characters are drawn with enough depth that you care when something happens to them.Apart from that, the plot is silly silly silly - but it's a horror film, I really don't think that's going to put anyone off. Also at least the plot provides for some quite creepy situations, especially in the lead-up when you don't know what is happening.I have one major criticism and it will probably attract ghouls rather than repel anyone - it resorts to torture-porn, briefly, in a couple of places. They weren't enough to wreck the film, but after most of the film is dark-house-spooky it was a bit much. And finally: as has probably been mentioned by other critics, fans of a certain FPS computer game series (I am one) will almost certainly get a kick out of this film!Verdict: Silly, has its faults, but very well executed and quite enjoyable.

Okay, so 'perfect' is probably not a term that should be used to describe a film about ghost-Nazis stalking a team of mercenaries in the wastelands of Eastern Europe, but, for what it is, 'Outpost' is a pretty damn good film.Hopefully, if you've fully digested my first paragraph about the ghost-Nazis (or zombie-Nazis – take your pick) you won't be expecting a deep and intellectual film, filled with emotional depth and fulfilling character arcs and plot twists. So, if you're looking for a damn tense (and pretty creepy) little story, with decent action scenes and characters you may actually care about, then try this.Outpost is a B-movie. It never really tries to be anything else. It doesn't have much of a budget, but what it does have it uses well. So, if you like your action/war/horror movies short and to the point, you really could do worse than to watch Outpost (just don't get it confused with any of the – very inferior – sequels!http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/

In a run-down bar somewhere in Eastern Europe, mercenaries are hired to escort a scientist named "Hunt" (played by Julian Wadham) to an abandoned Nazi military bunker. The leader of the expedition, "DC" (played by Ray Stevenson), is led to believe that this will be a quick operation lasting no more than 48 hours. When they arrive at the bunker strange things begin to happen as one by one the men are killed very mysteriously. Eventually, they begin to realize that the Nazis had built a machine that could dematerialize--and then rematerialize--walking corpses trained to do nothing but kill. And they do. However, these corpses are not zombies and don't have the same weaknesses. Bullets to the head don't stop them. Neither do claymore mines. As such they are almost impossible to kill. However, for a brief moment it looked like they had found a solution to their problem. But when the machine, used to send an electronic pulse (or something similar), blew a fuse it was rather obvious what the outcome would be. Everything after that was, unfortunately, all too predictable. On a positive note, the acting was good and while the mercenaries were very undisciplined, I liked the solid military tactics they used in combat. Even so, the plot was a bit too far-fetched (even for a zombie type of movie!) and by making the walking corpses too powerful it took away from the overall effect. That's too bad because it had a lot of potential.
