Waste of time
... View MoreI gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
... View Moreit is the rare 'crazy' movie that actually has something to say.
... View MoreIt is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
... View MoreThe Erie town this takes place in sets the tone for the show! I have watched the entire first 2 seasons in 43 hours! The suspense, mystery and just the right amount of horror sets this series aside from most! Excellent show!!! The American remake is not so great.
... View MoreAbsolutely fell in love with this show unlike anything I've seen before. Don't be put off by it been in French with English subtitles didn't make a difference to my experience couldn't imagine it without it to be honest.and the music in the show is brilliant and works so well with the feel and essence of the show. fantastic!!!
... View MoreLes Revenants is a supernatural thriller that has a beautifully crafted stillness about it. Like the calm waters of the towns dam, which is very much intrinsic to this story, its seeming calm belies deep, dark secrets, waiting to be uncovered. When secrets do begin to reveal themselves, they do so almost silently. Its akin to water slowly being drained away to ever so gradually reveal something increasingly disturbing. There is, as a consequence, a real tension, in this series but its constrained by the fact that knowledge and understanding is only gained gradually. Indeed, even when the pieces start to come together its a calculatedly disjointed process, designed to unnerve the viewer. The acting is in French but there are subtitles. Its difficult to say any one performance or performances are excellent as this series is not about any one individual. Moreover, the characters have a subdued quality about them. Perhaps a better way of viewing Les Revenants cast is to say their collective performance is polished. The story is highly original and clever. So much so, its very hard to put the pieces together. This will frustrate some but delight others. I rarely come across a mystery/thriller I can't unravel and this one gave me hours of enjoyment trying to work out what was taking place. In summary, this is an excellent series. If you have not taken a look I'd recommend you do. Nine out of ten from me.
... View MoreAs this series, set in a small French Alpine town, opens fifteen year old Camille returns home; she acts as if it is a typical day but her parents and sister are shocked... Camille had died in a coach crash four years previously! She has no memory of what happened that day or in the intervening years and hasn't aged a day. Over the coming days more people start returning from the dead; some from much further in the past than Camille. As the series progresses we learn more about the characters and their town's past and see how people cope with the return of people that had died. One of the returned is a strange young boy called Victor who we first see in a flashback scene where he is standing in the road causing a coach driver to swerve and crash killing his passengers, including Camille. The opening episode immediately intrigued me; while there was the obvious question about why Camille and the others were returning that didn't dominate the series. Instead it was about the characters and how they deal with such a strange event; some are frightened while others are just happy to have their loved ones back. It was interesting to see the living dead portrayed as ordinary people rather than brain eating zombies; that isn't to say this wasn't chilling; not all of them were good people when they were alive and they aren't different now. There is also the constant sense that things could go wrong for any character. The cast do a really good job; young Swann Nambotin is particularly effective as Victor; he manages to make the character distinctly creepy while still being sympathetic. Yara Pilartz is also memorable as Camille; possibly the most normal of The Returned. The first season was the better of the two to my opinion but the second was still pretty good and gave the story a satisfying conclusion. Overall I'd certainly recommend this for anybody looking for something a little different. These comments are based on watching the series in French with English subtitles.
