A story that's too fascinating to pass by...

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

This series lands right at a 7 for me.Honestly, I liked it for the most part.If you're able to make it through the first 3 episodes you'll most likely find the last 7 are a bit better. The series follows 3 main groups - A small group that starts at the police station; a larger group at the church; and the largest group at the mall.Eventually the first two groups wind up at the mall for different reasons of course.Of all the groups, the sanest come out of the police station, craziest at the church, and the people in the mall were written to be mostly paranoid and stupid. Throw in a smattering of other survivors here and there and there's the cast.Of all the actors I'm a bit partial to Dan Butler (aka Bulldog from Frazier) and Frances Conroy (from AHS). They both played their parts amazingly. There are some other strong actors as well. Personally I think almost every actor played their parts fairly well with the script they were given.Enter the problems: predictable situations, too much back story, and lots of dumb decisions. There was some suspense but the "attack" scenes were hit or miss. It's interesting how The Mist acts and how it kills it's victims. It's almost as if it kills people with their worst fears. In some cases it just torments but never kills. I didn't quite get the selective nature though. I guess if the series had been able to continue there would be more answers. The story line slowly begins to unravel but I guess we'll never really know. Being left in limbo makes watching this feels almost pointless, but if you want to be left guessing, or fill in your own answers, then knock yourself out!

Barely made it through the first episode. Bad writing and unlikable characters. I won't watch any more, but I'm cheering for the actual mist to take everybody out.

The novella, wonderful. The 2007 movie, very good until the ending. This series has absolutely nothing in common with the other two except the title.

Shows like this make me wish that Mystery Science Theater 3000 would do TV shows as well. It's like Manos, but without the charm, and 5 times longer. I kind of wish that there was a second season so that we could find out just what the heck was going on in this show, but at this point it is just morbid curiosity. There are some good performances here, and some decent effects, but they are wasted on a meandering story that can't decide if it wants to be a horror show or a soap opera.I knew I was going to have a real problem with this show as soon as I figured out that the old hippie lady, Nathalie Raven, was to figure prominently in the show. Her character was just so annoyingly smug, and so completely wrong about everything; I cringed every time she opened her mouth and some stereotypical crazy old bat speak would come tumbling out. While her character wasn't the only one I had a problem with, she was far and away the most annoying for me. This show had some potential, but they squandered that pretty badly. It's kind of fun to watch if you're interested in horror so bad that it's good, hence the comparison to Manos. I would recommend watching it while imbibing something to dull the pain of such uninspired crap, or maybe with a group of people who want to bash it with you.
