I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

This is one of the all-time best mystery dramas, starring Angela Lansbury as crime novelist Jessica Fletcher, who takes on an amateur sleuth role and helps the local authorities crack crimes. As Jessica Fletcher, Lansbury displays charm, wit and careful thinking and execution while trying to solve each crime, keeping the TV series suspenseful and surprising from start to finish. The entire atmosphere gives the show a really good classic murder-mystery vibe. The episodes were written with much intrigue, details and entice, with a well-acted cast of characters and guest stars to boot. The opening scene of Jessica typing away on her typewriter/computer with the piano score in the background represents just the right mood for this type of series. I also especially liked the flashback of what really took place at the crime scene toward the end of each episode.Definitely one of the best shows of the 80s and 90s! Grade A

I always loved "Murder, She Wrote" on TV, and that is why I bought several season box sets. During the television broadcast of the series I must have missed most of the episodes which were only introduced by Angela Lansbury and which featured several of J. B. Fletcher's "friends." So I was disappointed when the sixth season seems to overflow with these substitutes. I like Jessica solving crimes and not Bill Boyle, Michael Haggerty, Harry McGraw, Jake Ballinger or whoever else the writers came up with. For this reason and for this reason only I will not be buying any sets after the sixth. I would like to clarify that this has nothing to do with the fine actors who portray these people or with the quality of the writing. I am just stating my personal preference for J. B. Fletcher's unique style of solving crimes.

"Murder, She Wrote" is a great show starring Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a friendly mystery writer drawn into several murders that somehow pop up around her. This clever show is one of the few mystery shows that doesn't spell it out for you, but still allows the viewer to solve it with the characters. A plethora of interesting characters, some not quite properly developed, provides spice to the twelve seasons of the show. The major drawback to the show is a simple one. The twelve seasons of this show, with a murder a piece, is extremely unrealistic. This woman must be either a killer magnet or a brilliant serial killer. This simple problem isn't that big of a deal, and often provides a bit of humor to a show that seriously risks becoming stale, but manages not to after twelve seasons.

I also really like Law and Order and Diagnosis Murder, but this is my favourite of all. The main reason is because after a stressful day at school, I can switch on the TV, and watch the show on Alibi. Each episode is intriguing, and full of guest stars like Michael McKean, George Hearn, Keith Michell and Jerry Orbach. I can go on and on with the list. I do prefer the earier episodes, but there are a lot of standout later ones. Also, Angela Lansbury, a person who I really admire, is really entertaining as Jessica Fletcher, a murder mystery writer who finds murder everywhere she goes. You can never tell she is actually British, and if you see her in Beauty and the Beast and the original Manchurian Candidate, you'll understand why she's a fine actress. William Windom, Michael Horton, Ron Masak and Tom Bosley also make impressive supporting turns. In conclusion, a really entertaining show, worthy of a lot more recognition. 10/10 Bethany Cox
