Kindhearted Griffin Keyes is one of the best-loved caretakers at the Franklin Park Zoo, but since he is more comfortable with the animals than with females of his own species, his love life is lacking. When Griffin decides that the only way to get a girlfriend is to find a more-glamorous career, the animals panic. To keep him from leaving, they reveal their secret ability to talk and offer to teach him the rules of courtship, animal-style.

I'm very slowly starting to appreciate Kevin James as a comedian. Combining aspects of "Night At the Museum" and "Dr. Doolittle," this movie features James as a zookeeper with a girl problem. He doesn't have one. After spilling his problems to the animals at the zoo where he works, he starts debating on moving on with his life, but instead of losing him, the animals resolve to fix his love life and fix him up with the girl he loves. The highlights of the movie focus on James and his friendship with a depressed gorilla voiced by Nick Nolte. The effects bringing the gorilla to life are excellent, the highlight of the movie. Sylvester Stallone is a superb casting choice as the voice of the lion, and Adam Sandler sneaks under the radar as the voice of the capuchin monkey. What makes the movie appealing is James discovering his destiny with the young vet at the zoo played by the lovely Zoe Saldana and realizing that he just can't be the person his would-be ex-girlfriend wants him to be. That's what makes this movie much more than just another nauseating talking animals movie. It makes you laugh, and it makes you think. The only thing that would ruin a movie this impeccable would be trying to derive an unnecessary sequel out of it.

Griffin Keyes (Kevin James) is the perfect employee. In addition to being the favorite of all the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo, he's professional, courteous and well-liked by his co-workers. His dedication was only compounded when, five years earlier, he was dumped by his fiancée mid-proposal. But when his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) comes back into his life at his brother's engagement party, his career soon feels like an albatross around his neck. Fearing the loss of their favorite zookeeper, the animals (voiced by Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, Cher and others) intervene. They reveal the fact that they can speak and always could and then proceed to offer Griffin whatever help they can in winning back his former girlfriend. The attempts and advice vary in detail but what it all amounts to is a slapstick tsunami. It can enhance a storyline when used correctly but the use of it in this film is meant to replace one. It makes for a lot of laughs, but not a lot of originality. Basically, if you've seen the commercial, you've seen the movie. The kids will enjoy it, you might too, but you'd like it just as much if you waited to rent the DVD.

Hidden in the concrete jungle is New York Zoo with Griffin Keyes (Kevin James), its zoo-keeper, the heart of the facility. Meanwhile - unbeknownst to the outside world - the zoo is inhabited by talking giraffes, elephants, monkeys, lions and the like. When Keyes former girlfriend Stephanie (Leslie Bibb) threatens to throw him into a depression relapse the animals decide to make a coming out and assist their zoo-keeper with advice in the matters of the heart.Overly obscene and borderline disgusting littered with senseless jokes spurted out by gibberish animals, "Zookeeper" fails to deliver in one key aspect: making you laugh. Albeit Leslie Bibb and Rosario Dawson do add some flair to the proceedings with their ueber-stereotypical one dimensional characters James lacks enough comedic flair to pull off the lone hero role, while crude animals with moronic lines hardly help his case. Foreseeably James manages to get his girl with the use of animal advice, but the same won't help him draw in any audience.

Having it let pass by me so far, also due to the low score on IMDb, i finally saw the movie couple days ago on TV, expecting quite a turkey. And man, it was time well spent! In contraction to other comedies, not only the main character(s) are silly, everybody is. Everybody behaves over the top, even the apparently more serious stereotypes. And almost nobody gets away bad.The story is funny and heartwarming at the same time. It has a lot of physical comedy but also funny dialogs and situations. Got to admit, i shed tears of laughter many times and days later i'm still snickering thinking of some of the scenes. This is 4.9 on IMDb? Sometimes i really have to wonder if we saw the same movie. I'm in my 30s, dunno, maybe i'm not supposed to find this funny... The message of this movie: Have fun, don't be afraid to do silly things, let your inner child out and... always follow your heart.BTW, Rosario Dawson is gorgeous! And she is very funny too. Got a little crush on her with this movie LOL
