What a waste of my time!!!
... View Morea film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
... View MoreLet me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
... View MoreThere's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
... View MoreA group of three documentarians, Tyler (played by Tad Hilgenbrink), his friend Lalo (played by Alex Wyndham) and his girlfriend Serina (played by Janet Montgomery) go on a journey to look for a lost snuff film with said title. They soon meet a stripper named Alexa (played by Sophie Monk) who, as it turns out, is the daughter of "said film" maker, Wilson Wyler Concannon. All four of them continue the journey as Tyler begins having the feeling that they are being watched. With a premise like that, let me just say that I was not expecting very much from this film. It could very well have been one of those movies that are as bad as people usually make them out to be. But that really isn't the case with this. As soon as I had watched the opening, I thought that this would be nothing but an unintelligent gore-fest. Was I right, not really. As the film goes on, it's actually quite tense. The characters are actually well fleshed out. Tyler is the determining leader of the group, as he is the one who is obsessed with finding said film, so much that he neglects everyone he knows. His friend Lalo may seem like the typical stoner, but he's really just the typical yes-man to everything, not that that's a bad thing. Despite being the most oblivious, he still manages to make a decent impression. As for the Serina, I had a blast watching her on screen. She may seem as the ambiguous girlfriend, but, once again, as the film goes on, she actually makes a name for herself.Last, but not least, we have Alexa, the "leading" character. The fact that actress Sophie Monk has top-billing, surely, she would not be used as eye-candy. But was she not entirely. As I said, she is a stripper the first-time Tyler meets her. And at times, we do see her bare jugs. But besides that, she does have an actual purpose. Like I said before, she is the daughter of a snuff filmmaker. With all of that said, are there any flaws, definitely. But the only one that I had with it was the twist. While I'll admit that I didn't see it coming, it did feel like a clique to me. But other than that, I'm sure that this movie will give you the same unnerving feeling it gave me.
... View MoreIf you've been watching horror movies over recent years (especially the ones that find their way directly to DVD) then you'll probably know how they go... kids (annoyingly attractive), drive to wilderness (totally remote and beyond the reach of anyone's cell phone) and encounter X (could just be basic human rednecks, could be vampire things that live underground – it doesn't really matter). From there it's your average 'stalk 'n slash' until the last teen is left standing.'The Hills Run Red' is hardly a classic, but at least it makes some attempt to be a little bit different. Okay, so the attractive teens go to your average out-of-the-way place and fall foul to... (well, you have to watch the film to find out), but at least the film-makers know the 'horror conventions' and do their best to subvert them. The teens are investigating a 'legendary' eighties horror film that has somehow got lost among the way, therefore there are plenty of references to horror movies' conventions and they do manage to break them here and there. The acting is about what you'd expect from a B-movie and the kills are inventive (although some people might notice the excessive use of CGI here and there) and, as I've mentioned, there's a few little differences that makes this one (at least) worth a watch if you're into the genre. Yes, it'll never be in the same league as the original Texas Chainsaw film, but it'll while away an hour and a quarter if you have time (and teenagers) to kill.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
... View More"The Hills Run Red" is one of those slasher movies that you may have missed or have been easily passed by, firstly given it's straight to DVD status and the fact that are literally tons and tons to look through or come across in this genre. Okay there are always a lot of crap that comes out especially the straight to DVD's one because there are a lot of them, but there are times though when you do come across a gem or two and this one is certainly a gem.The plot = A young college student named Tyler comes across a rare slasher movie that got banned 20 years ago, cause it was too realistic and all the prints were destroyed and the director supposed to have died, but Tyler is still keen to track down this cult movie by tracking down his daughter and he and his friends set off to the cabin where it was filmed to make a documentary about it, unaware that the infamous Babyface killer from the long film is all too real and is after them.Okay the storyline alone got me interested and once they set off into the woods, it all turns into pretty much standard slasher fare, which isn't a bad thing whatsoever and there is nothing original about this movie, but again that might be hard to do these days nothing's original anymore. But this movie do deliver the goods and the Babyface killer is more than adequate for the job, he was very effective and brutal and even the backstory was interesting as well. The twists and turns that are throughout this movie were pretty great, and the gore was also great as well, especially at the beginning where we have a child cutting off chunks of his face with a pair of scissors were pretty disturbing and went right through me, I couldn't watch it and made me cringe, Okay this movie does get predictable and some of the characters aren't very likable and show stupidity but that was all part of the fun, and plus the downbeat ending was also rather fun.The performances really make this movie work as well Tad Hilgenbrink is a very decent lead as Tyler and Sophie Monk as Alexia the daughter showed some real range and became one of the more interesting characters in this movie, But William Sadler as the director was the real star he was vicious and really chewed the scenery and in fact all the cast members were very decent. All in all "The Hills Run Red" is just a standard slasher movie that is fun and has slight nods to other backwoods slasher movies, and moves along at a quick pace and never gets boring.

View MoreA group of young horror film fans led by the earnest and obsessive Tyler (a solid and likable performance by Tad Hilgenbrink) venture into the deep woods in search of the location where a legendary "lost" splatter fright flick was shot twenty years ago. The group discover that the killer in said feature is the real deadly deal and more than happy to meet new aficionados who are willing to die for his art. Director Dave Parker, working from a sick, compact, and ingenious script by David J. Schow, relates the absorbing story at a brisk pace, creates and sustains not only a genuinely creepy atmosphere, but also a strong feeling of dread and a good deal of tension, delivers a generous sprinkling of yummy bare distaff skin as well as a handy helping of graphic and unflinching in-your-face nasty gore, and tosses in shocking elements of snuff, torture, and incest to further spice up an already tasty'n'twisted cinematic stew. Better still, Parker maintains a grimly serious take-no-prisoners sensibility that becomes more increasingly bleak, dark, and unsettling as the harsh plot unfolds a powerfully disturbing surprise bummer ending. The fine acting from the capable cast rates as another sterling asset: William Sadler contributes a top-rate turn as deranged and reclusive director Concannon, gorgeous blonde Sophie Monk likewise excels as the equally unhinged, but sexy and enticing psycho junkie slut Alexa, Danko Jordanov cuts a scary figure as ferocious disfigured killer Babyface, plus there's sound work by fetching brunette Janet Montgomery as the sassy Serina and Alex Wyndham as the sarcastic Lalo. The startling outbursts of raw brutal violence pack a savage kick to the gut. Ilan Rosenberg's sharp cinematography provides a pleasing polished look. Frederick Wiedmann's shuddery score does the bone-rattling trick. Recommended viewing for slice'n'dice fans.
