This is How Movies Should Be Made
... View MoreA brilliant film that helped define a genre
... View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
... View Morenot memorable, not good or bad. only a form of amusement who use parts from Conan Doyle 's work for an easy game. the result is predictable, the story is fragile, the acting not special but decent. a film about Sherlock Holmes who has not revelations, new ideas or ambition to be an event. only entertainment without any complication. and that purpose is the best virtue. because the script or the cast are far to do a special movie about the legendary detective but are magnificent choice for a not complicated exercise to remind Holmes and Watson. and that could be a good point in the war of adaptations. because it is that kind of film who reminds the comfort of an evening after a long and hard work day.
... View MoreWhy this was written as a Sherlock Holmes movie I will never understand. No fault to the actor but every one knows Holmes should at least be taller than Watson ~ that was my first clue to major disappointment. And for Mycroft to be totally evil and not be upset when Sherlock is shot dead - don't worry, he wasn't - was another ridiculous character assassination. As for the rest of the story it would have been much more interesting to have mechanical dinosaur monsters, including the giant octopus and dragon interacting with new hero/villain characters. I feel like the writer was just too lazy to do real character development. Bummer.
... View MoreThis video release was produced by The Asylum, and when I saw it on TV, I had nothing but the lowest expectations, so my disappointment was not gigantic (i.e. I never even remotely expected anything like the Downey/Law movies or the Cumberbatch/Freeman TV series). This said, I was wondering whether some capable screenwriter, a good director, and actors like Downey and Law might not be able to extract something usable from this movie. There is, of course, the obvious fun of having one Downey character (Holmes) face off with another (Iron Man), but I think, with state-of-the-art special effects and a few improvements, this story might be turned into a decent, very entertaining movie, with lots of action and humor. The seed is there! If you watch it under this aspect, you might agree. I am sure much worse scripts have been handed to producers/directors and eventually, with a lot of rewrites and other improvements, been turned into quite decent movies.
... View MoreI would compare this movie to pond scum, if not for the fact that it would be an insult to pond scum. The acting is terrible, and - worse - the plot is nonsensical. Silly plot points are particularly troubling for a Sherlock Homes film, as the stories typically rely on intellectual consistency and insights. The fact that this film involves monsters and the White Chapel murders means it's not even suitable for children. As such, it's difficult to imagine how production was ever financed. A rich relative or generous government subsidies, perhaps? Ben Snyder's take on Sherlock Holmes is insipid ... but he certainly isn't helped by the stiff dialog.
