Good , But It Is Overrated By Some

... View MoreMany years have passed since the sentient 1963 VW Bug named 'Herbie' took the racing world by storm; now he has been consigned to a junk yard awaiting the crusher. Meanwhile Maggie Peyton has just graduated from college so her father rewards her with her choice of car from the junk yard. Inevitably she chooses Herbie, or more accurately Herbie chooses her. It quickly becomes apparent to her that Herbie is no ordinary car as he drives her to her friend Kevin's garage where he works as a mechanic. He later takes them to a race event where she ends up beating stock car racer Trip Murphey in a street race. He is determined to get his own back and gets her to race against him again; this time the winner gets ownership of the loser's car Maggie obviously wants Trip's stock car but Herbie doesn't want to be passed over for another car and throws the race. Maggie will have to save him from destruction once more before facing Trip again. There are other problems too Maggie is part of a racing family but promised her father that she wouldn't race again after an accident when she was younger and having been caught lying to him must regain his trust.I'd seen the original Herbie films as a child and recall enjoying them but wasn't expecting too much of this; perhaps it was because I wasn't expecting too much I found myself rather enjoying it. Yes it is obviously rather silly but it is also a lot of fun. Lindsay Lohan is charming as Maggie; she easily carries the film with her fine performance. She is ably supported by Matt Dillon who, unsurprisingly, makes a suitably unpleasant villain in the role of Trip; nicely over the top in a way that remains suitable for a film aimed primarily at children. Michael Keaton and Justin Long also impress as Maggie's father and Kevin respectively. There is another major character of course Herbie; he is portrayed in an enjoyable way; at first appearing to be somewhat possessed, there is even mention of getting an exorcist, then developing a relationship with Maggie; all without saying a word. The action scenes are for the most part fairly exciting; there are some pretty silly moments but they are clearly aimed at younger viewers and I'm sure they will be delighted by them. Overall I'd recommend this, mainly to those with youngish children but also to the young at heart.
... View MoreMaggie Peyton, the new owner of Number 53 - the free-wheelin' Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own - puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor. Unlike the horrible new Ghostbusters movie this is a film starring a woman and directed by a woman would i have prefer someone else instead of Lindsay Lohan? You betcha. Also the movie has a pretty cool soundtrack i mean common 4.7 is a little bit harsh the acting isn't that bad sure the film is over the top and kinda goofy but don't take it serious and you will love it also i would like Michael Keaton have a bit of bigger role but i'm OK with it also i'm sure they could pick someone better than Matt Dillon as the bad guy but i didn't mind it Herbie Fully Loaded is not a perfect movie but it's not a bad movie also.
... View MoreAfter 4 memorable movies (The Love Bug – 1968), (Herbie Rides Again – 1974), (Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo – 1977), (Herbie Goes Bananas – 1980). A short lived TV series (Herbie, the Love Bug – 1982). Then a TV movie (The Love Bug – 1997). Finally Herbie comes to life again. It took 25 years to return to movies. And it's not bad return at all. It's a merry and fast-paced movie in which the love bug is owned for the first time by a teen girl. I loved the way Herbie's details were shown; that was smart and amusing. The best thing it assured as a whole is that Herbie isn't a relic from the old days of Disney. As a Herbie movie or not; it got 2 special elements I'll never forget. The first is (Lindsay Lohan). I believe this movie witnessed the end of her image as a child, and the start of her life as a young lady. She, here, had a truly sensual smile, clear breasts, and very short skirts as well! In a word she was hot. Maybe the hottest young girl has ever been a lead of a Disney family-movie (even her screams were hot !).Just remember her entrance with the race's suit, and the moment after she changed her clothes in a bathroom. Her eyes in that last one, while looking at the boy who's crazy about her, were electrifying.. as if she's in real love! Part of our surprise comes from a legacy of works we've seen for her, before this moment, yet as a "kido" not a "mademoiselle". The other thing is undoubtedly the CGI. I'm not a fan, but this movie gave me damn good causes to be one. Actually, it has nothing wrong; namely nothing of what made any other CG images I watched, in surely bigger movies, a fine turn-off ! I was amazed since the image achieved that perfect level. No shot intimated that a computer had dealt with it in a way. Herbie does his fancy things beautifully, without feeling that they're fancy! I only didn't love one moment (when "he" saved the lead at the stadium) but that was mainly because the bad designing of the scene. That doesn't deny how this is a lesson in using this high-tech in high talent. Simply this is CGI as it should be. At the commercials this movie got me at Herbie. But along side "him", those were the reasons why I might set to watch it again.
