Crappy film

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

There is a lot of people who view this film and try to dumb it down and say how awful the Rock is. Let me say this; a film about morals and dreams is far from dumb. It is fun, light-hearted and has a clear message behind it.Dwayne Johnson is known for his brooding physical prowess and many action style formatted films. Here he portrays Derek Johnson a minor league hockey player known as "The Tooth Fairy" for his heavy hits. Due to an injury he has been remanded to this level. Ashley Judd portrays his girlfriend Carly with 2 kids one who adores him and one who does not. Along the way Derek smashes one of the kids ideas of dreams and fantasy by saying they are not real. As a result he is summoned to Fairyland and has to be remanded to being the REAL tooth fairy until he realizes what he has done. The humor is fun and the light hearted style of the film is brought to life by Johnson and his performance. It's a kids film but with family value. I found it entertaining and well done and give it a well deserved 7 out of 10

Tooth Fairy is actually an entertaining family film. It's a good movie to watch if you're fed up with the excessive swear words in movies. Tooth Fairy has clean dialogue, okay performances, good directing, and has a positive message.

So this is not a great movie, and it will never be mistaken for one. I'd agree with that assessment. But it is kind of cute and it is very silly, and when you look at it as a movie that's basically there to appeal to kids (because there's really nothing in it for adults) you have to at least concede that cute and silly is not a bad combination for a kids movie. So this may not be great, but it's not really bad, in that it serves its purpose: it's a kid-friendly movie. Nothing wrong with that. Now, from an adult's point of view, the story which revolves around hockey player Derek Thompson - played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - being sentenced to work as a tooth fairy for a couple of weeks as punishment for "disseminating disbelief" is pretty lame and the performances are generally forgettable. I was completely unconvinced of the need for the hockey angle, and frankly it was done badly. The on ice action was poorly portrayed (although the scene in which Thompson takes his revenge on the 18 year old whiz kid - Ryan Sheckler - was pretty funny) and, really, how could Thompson play 9 seasons without a single shot? 9 seasons without a goal maybe, but this guy seemed to get enough ice time, at least as an enforcer and bodyguard for his team's better players, so somewhere along the lines he's going to pick up the odd rebound and get a shot. This is mildly humorous every now and then, and considering how silly it really is it has some surprisingly recognizable faces in the cast - including Julie Andrews and Billy Crystal. I'd give it a 4/10 - but it's not a bad choice to sit down and watch this with your kids.

The plot is interesting and engaging for both children and light-hearted adults. Dwayne Johnson plays the lead part with passion. He is convincing as both the dream killer and the believer. Billy Crystal is hilarious as always. Start to end he is a side-splitter. Stephen Merchant is a Joy as he keeps pace with The Rock in physical banter. The kids are cute and well casted. All throughout the plot there are comical references and situations to keep the adults amused while the kids are glued to their seats with a story they care about. In the end we are inspired to believe in second chances and to try our best. Comedy and meaning are woven into a story worth putting in your home collection.
