If I've got this right, Rob The Mob was marketed as a comedy. Even the title seems to be something of a giveaway. Well, although there are some funny moments, the story of a dumb young couple who really don't seem to have much of a clue about anything and end up paying for their stupidity with their lives, is no comedy. But that is no criticism.Almost every aspect of this film, even the score it uses, is just a little more subtle than at first seems to be the case. The mobsters - the Mafia we can now call them although for years they denied there was any such group - are not caricatured in any way, the FBI is shown doing a serious job, and the tabloid reporter whose beat is covering the Mob takes his job very seriously. None of them is dumb, not even the gangsters who are incredulous when one half of the young couple enters on of their 'social clubs' and robs them. Only the couple are dumb, dumber than even they might think. There are some quite poignant scenes in the film - when the dumb chap tries to give his mother and brother some of his ill-gotten gains to make amends for having let them down so often over the years and neither wants to take it you realise, especially after seeing the mother's bitter reaction that this could never be a comedy. This is most certainly not our standard gangster movie. This film came out in 2014 yet there are only 26 or so user reviews, so I'm assuming it didn't make much of an impact. And that's a shame because it's well worth the ride.Yes, you'll get laughs, but don't expect a comedy, just a small insight into the behaviour of some people, some of whom you would never want to cross. If you get the chance to catch this, do so. You won't regret it.

1992, small time thugs Thomas and Rosie Uva are tired of knocking over convience stores for peanuts, so one night they come up with an idea, a crazy idea. While scouting locations, Thomas accidentally stumbled upon a mafia owned bar and realized, there's a whole lot of money there and not much protection. For the next year, the duo ripped off the mob without consequence, until they took something that made them both the biggest targets in New York. This is another unbelievably true story, that has been brought to the big screen and the public eye, because of our on-going fascination with organized crime. Mafia movies do so well at the box office, that writers are scrambling to find any story they can turn into a film and it's the audience that has benefited the most. Some people say these movies glorify crime, and maybe they do, but to me, anything Mafia related is just fascinating. Watching these films and hearing these stories, you think how could that have happened? Then you go to Wikipedia and find out it's all true! Rob The Mob is the latest in a bunch of these little known Mafia stories to hit the big screen and it does not disappoint. Who plays a Mafia don better than Andy Garcia? Add to that the intense, Michael Pitt, straight off a successful run in Boardwalk Empire, and you have the makings of a terrific cast. The bottom line, Rob The Mob isn't Goodfellas, but it's a hell of a story, with a cast that's experienced in these types of films. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a Mafia movie, but if your like me, that doesn't matter much, it's the story and personalities that you're really interested in.

I was not expecting such a good movie and its about time we saw Michael Pitt deliver again. Its a serious mafia movie. Nina Arianda delivers an outstanding performance showing she is certainly destined for some BIG roles in the future together with Michael Pitts gritty realism they show fabulous chemistry. Ray Romano ( great to see him acting away from comedy)supporting with real believable compassion showing he can be much more than a funny man. Great insight into the mafia gelled to a moving tale of true love, Rob the Mob will impress any mafia movie fan looking for action, but it also impresses by generating a soul coupled with a great soundtrack and seasoned direction.

I had never heard of Tommy and Rosie Uva before seeing "Rob the Mob", so that makes the story all the more impressive. It's not a great movie - no "Bonnie and Clyde" by any stretch - but still worth seeing. Stealing from mafiosos is the sort of thing that would be fun to do, if incredibly dangerous; imagine stealing from thugs and coming across a list that could put every one of them away! It's not something that I would risk doing, but the movie makes it look as if Tommy Uva enjoyed doing it. He's the type of guy whom you just gotta love. I will admit that most of the mafia characters come across as caricatures (hot-headed wise guys), but that doesn't weaken the movie. I liked it.
