Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible
... View MoreDreadfully Boring
... View MoreBlending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
... View MoreNot sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
... View MoreI was expecting to like this movie going in because I happen to think that Shane Dawson has some talent as a comedian. My opinion has severely dropped after this movie.Let me start with the comedy. Most of the dialogue is either cringey or uninspired and the jokes that are supposed to make me laugh because they are gross and random don't work because there is no sense of comedic timing or pacing for each joke. Each joke comes out awkward and forced and most comedies have jokes that tie in to the story but a lot of these jokes are not incorporated very well. The plot is very weak and cliché in a lot of places. The two main leads have to have a fight to propel the third act and you know they are going to end up together somehow because "true love". The screenplay does nothing to help me connect with any of the characters on the screen and most of the characters are deplorable souless beings. We could've at least gotten some funny jokes with the characters from Shane's youtube channel but he decides that these boring and cookie cutter characters are enough to propel the story. The acting is awful but I can feel that Shane is trying in some places but most of the actors need to take some acting lessons. This movie had a horrible sense of pace and the direction is equally awful. The music is some of the most shitty teen melodramatic music I've heard. I am sad that most people who gave this movie a 10/10 probably gave it just because it was Shane Dawson.Shane, I don't hate you but please never do a movie ever again
... View MoreI think, as a fan of Drew Monson and Shane Dawson, That this Movie was really well made for a low budget. I think it was well made and thought out. One thing I would loved even more was if the kid throwing the big party's parents totally beat his ass. All in all, I love it and if Drew And Shane ever read this, I love you guys, your the best. Also if that crazy Ex girlfriend was a little more crazy and maybe beat up Scott before 'Doing Him' Would be entertaining. And did Shane ACTUALLY shave his hair off? And what did they use as the fake Vomit?I also love the fact that Drew's character acts a lot like him. And Shane's glittery boobs made me laugh for about ten minutes.
... View MoreHonestly I watched the Movie a few months ago(Before I was Subbed to Shane) I was with friends just looking for something to watch, one of my friends said I have that Shane Dawson movie, I said "What ever put it on". Honestly it's not the worst movie of all time nor its the best, it's just your run of the mill Outrageous Comedy. Maybe I'm apart of them "Un intelligent" group of people, that all these snobby critics are saying, but I found the movie to be funny. Bit silly at times? Of course, Were there jokes that weren't funny? Yes, but i found that I laughed so much I forgot about them one or two jokes. For a first film and with a small budget its not that bad, I think some people are looking to critically at the film and try to find deep meaning in it, but its just a raunchy comedy. Its like saying "12 year of slave" sucked cause it lacked comedy, but It was never meant to be seen as a comedy in the first place. The acting was good spare some of the cheesy(but sweet) monologues. I would give it a 6.5/10, Its a good Saturday night movie to watch with friends(Or family, if you're that comfortable with dirty jokes in front your parents) over a Take- Away. Honestly for me this was better than some of the comedy I saw this year **Cough** Interview, Bad Neighbours. **Cough**. After this movie Shane earned a Sub and I wish him good luck with any future projects. Show less
... View MoreI watched The Chair, the documentary of the making of this film, and was anxious to see the final product. There were some things I really liked and some things I absolutely hated.Shane Dawson at times infuriated me. I was not familiar with his You Tube stuff at all, but from what I learned, the videos were often tasteless and appealed to young teenage girls. Shane wanted to do something bigger, better, and more mature with his first film, yet, contradicted himself and made the wrong choices consistently. He faced so many consequences for the raunchy tasteless jokes in his film, from people not wanting to work on the movie to Zachary Quinto taking his name off it. And for what? None of the gross out scenes worked. It is not funny seeing a homeless person eating his own excrement. It is not funny watching a girl get vomited on repeatedly. Shane was such a narcissist that he cast himself as the lead character, a guy who was the most popular guy in school. This is a person whom Shane clearly isn't, nor was he a good enough actor to pull it off. Casting the right actor for that part would have helped immensely. Here's what i liked; the film was bright and colorful, some of the less raunchy jokes were very funny, and it truly captured teenagers today regarding their obsession with their phones and social media. And Drew Ronson who played a supporting character with an unrequited love was so charming and likable. I also liked the father of Shanes character as opposed to the other parents who were just ridiculous and way over the top.If Shane Dawson ever gets the chance to do this again, hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and listen to people who know more than he does.
