Mercenary John Seeger is one of the best in the business. John and his crew battle some soldiers on Galmoral Island in Southern Africa as they're trying to rescue the French Ambassador -- there's a coup going on. Some of John's soldiers unload their machine guns into the Ambassador and his family, blowing the mission and getting his best friend Radio Jones killed. He heads back to the US and visits Radio's wife Shondra to tells her the news, and then promises that he'll take care of her and her son Eddie. But shortly after he makes that vow, Shondra and Eddie get kidnapped.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

My dad bought a DVD of this. As I read your comments, YOU ARE ALL RIGHT. It's not the Seagal movie what I expected to be. The opening sequence is too plain. Compared to Hollywood blockbusters, who had very striking opening sequences with too much graphics. I felt pity for for the French ambassadors family who was blown away in a truck just like that. & WORSE, at end part was like, "THAT'S IT??" What I only like is the character of the villain Anthony Chapel. His personality & the way he talk is pretty annoying. But it suits better for the movie. Steven Seagal was my favorite martial arts superstar. But it shows in 2006, he already grown old & gone bloated. Now that Sylvester Stallone called to join "Expendable 3", I hope he lose some weight for his next movie.

With a face of a stupid lion, a twice as much his old weight, a monster of a hair, and not much Aikido to perform STILL Steven Seagal is making movies as long as there are millions of idiot people who keep watching him. However – with this condition – what's left to be watched in the first place ?!!! After promising, yet short, beginning, he became a never-ending disappointment. Really movies come and go, good or bad, but he's in much worse case as he aged. Now watching him is one definition of frustration. Whether his recent movies have attractive points or not, be sure, dear Seagal is having zero acting talent, zero funniness, and zero charisma, transforming from the master of Aikido, into the waster of Aikido! Enough with the Seagal. (Mercenary for Justice) isn't a bad movie. On the contrary it got kind of smart plot. A revenge story, a bluff heist, a hostage situation. The cinematography is fair, unlike what you see in the usual Seagal, or the "V", movies. The action is good, in fact above mediocre according to the intro's sequence. But while a lot of elements are smart, there is certain stupidity that fills everything.Seagal radiates dumbness. He acts as indifferent person, but this is the most horrible, most laughable version of Humphrey Bogart I've seen, being rarely an actor who acts an indifferent character indifferently ! So how about being so out of shape lead in an action as well ?! Honestly he looks like the worst parody of himself !I won't say that the heroine is untalented since the role demands no acting, but she looked unattractive, provocatively unattractive to an extent pushed me to look away the screen sometimes (while there was astonishing healthy blond in the start who wasn't utilized AT ALL !). The bad guys were between uncharismatic and semi-buffoon. This movie isn't funny or tries to be; there is just one one-liner delivered horribly by Seagal near the end (whether the directors of his movies don't dare to tell him "please act", or they just despaired !). And there are some dumb points : the camera's shadow is so clear on the car's glasses, Seagal mimics (John Turturro)'s sudden sneaking moves of (Mr. Deeds – 2002) when he gets out the evil guy's car to a running van in nanosecond totally unseen!! At least there weren't many of these points. If you can forget Seagal then it's fair time. FYI in 7 years (from 2001 to 2008) SS made 20 movies plus one he was guest star in it to spoof himself (The Onion Movie)! So what that can tell you about him ? 1) God help the V movies' viewers. 2) Although I'm not a fan of SS but I want his job ! 3) The guy is so frank when it comes to evaluate his real talent and silly persona ! Finally, he's a different experience of torment ! Just watch his movies to know how god is so generous, providing everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, with the means of subsistence. Even the ones who don't do their own job !

"Mercenary For Justice": a confused mixture of a bit of warfare in the "Black Hawk Down" vein, a bank robbery, a prison break and a mission to save an abducted mother and her little son. In between all the bullets flying around, you hardly get to know the characters, and thus you don't really care about any of them. I liked most of Seagal's recent movies such as "The Foreigner" or "Out For A Kill" (and many who watched those don't agree with me). However, "Mercenary of Justice" was the weakest among those I've watched. Seagal defeats bad guys without wasting any blood, sweat or tears. It's all coming too easy to be exciting. The two only good points were some camera work (many shots were hand-held, looks more realistic than nice crane moves) and beautiful Jacqueline Lord who bears a strong resemblance with Catherine Zeta-Jones and plays her role convincingly no matter if she is at a dinner party or a battle.

"Mercenary for Justice" is garbage. Sure, it looks slick, with above-average (by DTV standards) production values, international locations, and some great stunts. But don't let the looks fool you. The story makes no sense whatsoever from beginning to end, and Seagal's ego-feeding is in full-force here (he is introduced as "the most decorated soldier in Gulf War I" - apparently he wouldn't even settle for "second most decorated" - and, of course, nobody can land a single tiny hit on him in a fight, despite the fact that these days he has to send his stunt double to climb over a 10-foot wall). The viewer has no idea what is going on or why, and in a turn of events that shows just how utterly moronic this script is, Seagal and his female partner Jacqueline Lord kill several perfectly innocent Cape Town cops and security people who were just trying to protect the bank that these two were (inexplicably) robbing, yet the film apparently expects us to continue regarding them as the good guys (!!!), because they are trying to save a black kid and his mother. What the hell? Oh, and why does that kick-ass muscular and deadly female mercenary we see in the opening sequence get killed off so quickly? At least SHE could climb over a wall. (*1/2)
