... View MoreThe surprise ending wasn't so much as a surprise as what happens when you say to your self through the whole movie, I bet BLANK is going to happen, over and over. And then poof BLANK happens. What was surprising about it was the subtle way they switched from her reality to the hallucinations, and then back to reality. Some movies make it really obvious that way there is no question about weather or not it is reality. Some of the delusions seem strange and disconnected to me. Bus explosion, there's on at the crash, makes sense. I'm still confused about the girlfriend giving Kurt AIDS. And the dog in the swimming pool. I wish Uncle Phil would have had a bigger part. And it was nice to see Regina Hill in a part where she got to sound intelligent.

View MoreNot only have many of the comments on this page mentioned Marisa Tomei's acting chops, the only thing that should be chopped (besides that horribly fake and unbelievable "head in the fridge", are the microphones that you see in just about every other scene. At one point, there are 3 microphones above each character in the same family kitchen where said fake head lies in a pool of ketchup. Marisa is on the telephone, and it looks like a big black adult toy is about to smack Ms. Tomei in the noggin. Now, this is only in the HD version, so let's say the microphones weren't there. THIS MOVIE STILL BLOWS!!! Like I said, things are chopped, Marisa Tomei's acting chops are not part of this "film", if we can call it that. We can replace her with a robot and get the same quality of emotion. Perhaps she was in a financial pinch, and needed the quick cash to keep up on the payments of her Land Rover. Put this flick on the chopping block, watch The Wrestler, and perhaps then you'll remember why Ms. Tomei is an actress, and you may get a bit more enjoyment out of that film than this horribly edited, scripted, and cinematic disaster. Shame on Ariel Vromen, who needs to go back to NYU, shouldn't have transferred to LA Film School, and needs to stick to dark comedy, rather than supposed dark films that lack intensity or research. To see better works from Arial Vromen, check out Rx, starring Colin Hanks. I prescribe that Vromen stick to writing his own scripts, as Joshua Leibner wrote this script, which is flimsy, and not worthy of Tomei.
... View MoreLet's see: I had great expectations towards this film, since Danika pretty much has the potential to be a fairly enjoyable thriller, but to my disappointment, it turned out to be one of those films that deliberately try to be confusing just for kicks. I don't know about the others, but I'd say I had my share of these kinds of psychological thrillers that usually lead to the same disappointing endings and nonsensical sequences. You know, the typical soft-horror/thriller/drama flick in which the main character keeps having hallucinations and visions about horrible things happening around her and the rest of the characters are dead worried but they still don't do anything to help her out. Even though Ariel Vromen succeeds to create a puzzling atmosphere and there are two or three enjoyable moments, I'd say that these 'twist in the end' fever has been pretty much overdone already. This film pretty much offers a nice variety of pointless hallucination sequences in which Marisa Tomei, giving a flawless performance, always repeats the same situations but in different scenarios. Obviously, it ends up getting tedious after a a while. 'Danika' is the story of a genuinely desperate housewife, whose main fear is to lose one of her children or the three of them, for that matter. This obsession of overprotecting her kids, turns out to be the result of a traumatic childhood experience, in which poor little Danika loses her brother in a road accident. During the course of the film, the mentally unstable woman, appears basically smothering her children and over-worrying about every little thing, making the rest of her family lose their patience. However, it is clear to Danika that something is definitely not okay with her, as she realizes that she's experiencing weird hallucinations that turn her life into hell on earth. This film offers a few sequences that promise some sort of explanation whatsoever or at least a tiny little connection to the end. Nevertheless, just like many other recent flicks out there with a twist in the end, 'Danika' turned out to be ambiguous for no reason and it tries to deceive the audience and doubt about their own intelligence. My advice is to avoid this film, unless you are bored and you have nothing else to see. I wouldn't label it as 'unwatchable', because that would be unfair, considering that there are a few good things that deserve to be appreciated, but it's mostly Marisa Tomei's performance actually. 'Danika' is not terribly bad, but frankly, I was utterly disappointed when the good atmosphere and the few achievements were suddenly overshadowed by the silly ending. I wouldn't recommend this... sorry.
... View MoreIn the opening of the movie the main character thought she was in the middle of a bank robbery and her boss was murdered. All Danika could do was crawl on the floor in a separate room. While thought the robbery was really happening, the robbery was part of her imagination. It took quite a while for me to realize she had mental problem. How did the shrink turn out be be the person her husband was having an affair with? The ending of the movie did not make sense to me. What happen to her family? I noticed throughout the movie she would see the bag lady, but it turned out she was the bag lady. Was her husband really having an affair? Did her kids die in a car accident?
