Casshern Trailers

Fifty years of war between the Great Eastern Federation and Europa - now merged as Eurasia - have taken their toll on planet Earth. As a result of the use of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, much of Earth has become uninhabitable and people have become prey to new diseases. Professor Azuma's "neo-cell" project, which is supposed to be the answer to mankind's hardships, becomes a nightmare come true when mutants spawned from the experiment escape and declare war on the human race. Azuma's son Tetsuya, who was killed during the previous war, is reborn into the cyborg Casshern as mankind's last hope against the new mutant threat. This live-action sci-fi movie based on a 1973 Japanese animé of the same name.

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

This is one of my favourite films ever. When I first started watching it, I thought it was rubbish, I was shocked by how bad the GCI and everything looked. Just in terms of how unrealistic it looked like its using really old technology. For the first 30 minutes or so of the film I thought it was just going to be a completely rubbish film. However gradually I started to appreciate some of the truly beautiful moments of the film, the way the GCI and everything is used is very artistic, there are some more abstract messages in the film, there is a lot of symbolism and beautiful messages portrayed in an artistic way. By the end of the film I thought it was so beautiful. It is definitely worth watching to the end.

the history of film is full of entries that have more style than substance, but rarely has the divide between the visuals and the content been this wide. casshern is a unique, dazzling visual spectacle, but otherwise its deeply flawed.lets talk about those flaws first. casshern makes the classic sci-fi nerd mistake of wrapping an undercooked idea in an overcooked plot. the resulting story is boringly simplistic and incomprehensibly convoluted at once. at its core, casshern is an anti-war movie, but not only does it have nothing interesting to say other than "war is eeeevil", but it contradicts itself by fetishizing violence, and clutters its main message further with a vague anti-bio-engineering stance that seems completely unfounded. add some outrageously dated gender roles, a sluggish pace, unclear character motivations, lots of heavy-handed melodrama, and a plot so byzantine its all but incomprehensible on first viewing, and you have... a hot mess.however, for those who are patient and bring some good-will, some of those problems become less pronounced on second viewing. once the plot more or less clicks, the story shows a little more depth than it initially seemed.but the one thing that makes this movie worth watching - and make no mistake, it IS worth watching - is its visuals. words can not describe what a gorgeous steam-punk sci-fi animé masterpiece this is. every minute is brimming with dazzling pictures, from the eye-popping landscapes, to the head-spinning battle scenes, to the terrifying flashes of war-memories. really, I'm not gonna go further into this, because whats the point? just go and see it. you will probably find the story acceptable at best, terribly boring at worst, but the visuals will make sure that you wont regret a single second of it.

Having no experience in Asian movies or anime, I decided to give it a try to this interesting movie cover I saw in the video shop. Glad I did. This is not the typical sci-fi action movie; this is a high quality piece of art. A story about stories, supported by a profound plot, original storyline and mesmerizing visual effects, Casshern blew me away. This is just for open-minded people, who can connect the sequence of the film as the pieces of a puzzle, and who can use their imagination to make possible the impossible. I must admit that I felt a little lost at the beginning because I never read anything about the movie, or saw the 70's original anime, but as the story evolves it was sort of easy get in tune with it.From the beginning of the film you can appreciate the amazing visuals, the intriguing story, and some fighting scenes (that are too anime for my taste) introduced by strange rock music. This, but nothing else can be logically perceived until the end, when a twist gives sense to everything. At the end I cried, an unexpected cry that lasted hours; seriously. This movie is not for kids or juveniles, but for very mature adults who can understand and give it the deserved value. Understanding his message is the true legacy of this incredible but underrated film.

This is bad.Really bad.The film is totally nonsensical, and worst of all it thinks it's a deep message movie of the 'War is bad, mmmmkay?' variety. The one redeeming feature is that the visuals are fantastic. But even that gets hard to watch after about an hour.Any attempt to make sense of the plot, or pay attention to the bad dialog (yes, I know it was translated from the Japanese, but it's so moronic it can't all be poor translation) will only make you want your life back.My recommendation is to turn the volume all the way down, and put on some music you really like, and watch it like the 2+ hour music video it is.
