Dreadfully Boring

... View MoreAmazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
... View MoreThere's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
... View MoreJourneying to a secluded house, a group of friends head into the desert as part of a sorority initiation activity but awaken the murderous spirit of an ancestor that is seeking out a way of revenge against her treatment and tries to stop their rampage before they're all killed off.On the whole this one wasn't that bad at all. One of it's better features here is the film's rather nice and enjoyable plot as once it gets going, it has a ton of good stuff to it. This one starts off rather nicely here with the group heading out into the desert and arriving at the house which features the start of the action as those early haunting scenes with the ghost appearing along the highway being quite creepy leading into the scenes of them around the house. As this leads nicely into exploring the house as well as their initiation tactics there's quite some fun times here which leads nicely into the later half which has some fantastic scenes here when the ghost really starts getting involved in the action with some solid stalking and haunting scenes. The first time it appears in the bedroom is quite a nice stalking scene, the surprise attack on the one friend in the middle of the basement and the big surprise ambush on them at the house which is where this one becomes really enjoyable with the build-up to the creature coming out of the darkness even though they don't realize the ghost is the cause and the fun chaos that results from the discovery of the bodies and the race to get out which is all classic slasher film fun. Filled with some fun supernatural-themed action to come from the big battle at the end and some great work tying in the legend of the ghost's ancestors to the whole revenge plot involved here, that becomes quite enjoyable as well detailing all the nice action to come from this part of the film. Along with the nice gore effects and plentiful nudity there's some fun to be had here, though it does have some some minor issues with it. The biggest one is that the film is still highly watchable but is rather uneven in the pacing as in order to deal with such a flimsy plot, more time than what is usually the case is spent on the setup of the group at the house and how they're interacting with each other, so this one has a long time without a whole lot of ghostly dealings. Despite how much fun they are watching the group there, this one is quite uneven in how it details it's ghostly actions with so much of it occurring in the last half that there's a rather uneven split here and it can feel quite plodding at times. As well, some of that here is due to the obvious stunt- casting of the ranch-hand with them who has no business being there, offers nothing during the film and serves no purpose other than to get the name into the credits so taking his time out would've probably made the film run along a little faster. Overall there's some good stuff here, but it does take awhile to get there.Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and Full Nudity.
... View MoreThe protagonists are in their late teens or early twenties and in some college somewhere in New Mexico, USA. The characters are Rene, who seems to have a lot of bad dreams; Zane (Rene's cousin), who's looking for a lost fortune from his family's history; Phil, the nerd who's helping Zane; Danny, who's cool for some unseen reason; Julie (dressed as cow) and Laura (dressed as dog), two sorority pledges who try to make Rene happy. The six of them head out to the desert to find the 'treasure.' In parallel, Lester has been digging for gold out in the sticks, and seems to find some early on.Zane starts seeing things. He does a panic stop at freeway speed to avoid running over someone; no one else sees anything. Oi. The group meets Lester, who is the caretaker for Zane's family's deserted house. There is friction there from the beginning.Rene makes Phil tell the rest of the group about Zane's request for research on the family history. This is a bit troubled, but also seems a bit hard to have documented. The common great grandfather of Rene and Zane had two wives. When Phil goes outside for a better signal, someone kills him.The group gets into a discussion of ancient totems and symbols. They find pictures of the great-grandfather's two wives; both of them wore the necklace which Rene currently wears. Laura has the symbol on the necklace tattooed on the back of her neck.Rene sends Laura (dressed in boots) to bring back something from Lester's trailer. She gets there, selects a stuffed rabbit, and returns. Julie (dressed in jeans, poor choice; her feet suffer) makes the run to Lester's next. Zane carries Julie back after the ankle injury.Still, no one checks on Phil, who is dead, but propped up in the car. After so many hours one might think they would notice something.Looks like an elimination derby. How many of the remaining five will survive? Do Rene and Zane figure out the knot in their ancestors' history in time for it to do anyone any good? -----Scores------Cinematography: 10/10 Well done, no complaints.Sound: 5/10 Leveling problems, conversation versus 'music.' The music during the credits was really hideous.Acting: 4/10 Germaine Scott Grimes, Steve Sandvoss: useless. Lindsey Scott, Leah Rachel, Erin Reese: not that good. Terence Jay: almost OK. Tobin Bell: rather good in an extended cameo.Screenplay: 2/10 The central threat, the motivation for the revenge, and the ending did not make a lick of sense. What was the point of the Danny character, except to supply drugs? What was the point of the Phil character, except to slam people with computer skills? What was the point of the Julie character except her pneumatic figure? The characters Rene, Zane, and Laura were not interesting enough to make up for the general lack of story.
... View MoreZane (Terence Jay) and Renee (Leah Rachel) play incestuous cousins who get Renee's boyfriend Danny (Steve Sandvoss) nerd Phil and two fraternity pledges to a big old deserted house in the middle of the desert. It belongs to Zane and Renee's family and Zane thinks there's a treasure buried there. Also on hand is crazy old Lester (Tobin Bell of the "Saw" franchise). They're all attacked by an evil old spirit. The story is old and characters familiar but that's not what sinks the film. It's basically boring! I kept dozing off cause there was nothing interesting on the screen! To make it worse the gratuitous female nudity here is REALLY gratuitous and annoying. On the up side there's some REALLY gruesome gore, the whole cast is attractive (especially hunky Sandvoss), the acting isn't half bad and it does manage to eke out some suspense at the end. Also Jay (or more likely a stand in) shows a nice butt. So it's not terrible but dull and awfully familiar.
... View MoreAn interesting premise relating to an ancient family curse is thrown away in favour of the same old tired hazing/frat stuff. The girls are lively, especially Lindsey Scott who is the perfect scream queen but who surprisingly doesn't seem to have worked since this movie. Perhaps she's found religion? Well shot but badly let down by the two male leads. In particular Terence Jay who looks like the bits left over from Ben Stiller's plastic surgery. He also has a really embarrassing comb over! The scene where he's doing the twitchy acting with the torch would be amusing in a Larry Blamire movie but here it's just ridiculous. A bigger cast and more victims, a nastier edge and a different male lead and who knows this could have been quite decent. At least I quite enjoyed the end.
