Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

This flick blows! I've just watched 2 crappy "thrillers" back to back; this and A cure for Wellness... Even if u take it with a grain of salt and try to justify some of the over the top stuff, it just doesn't work DO NOT WATCH (Regardless of how much u enjoy horror/suspense films)

I feel like lots of people are quick to condemn any remake of a horror classic. Guess what? This does not destroy the original film. If anything, the 2006 version deserves credit for telling a brand new story and going all-out gory instead of being a shot-for-shot clone of the old film. The cast is great, the look of the film is beautiful, and some of the leaps that this story makes are just flat-out bonkers nutso crazy. Honestly, just put the original out of your mind and enjoy. Relax!

Black Christmas (2006): Dir: Glen Morgan / Cast: Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lacey Chabert, Andrea Martin, Mary Elizabeth Winstead: Disgusting piece of trash about the invasion of evil within the beautiful. Plot is summed up with several airhead young females trapped in a big house that once homed an institutionalized murderer who was locked in an attic by his mother yet retaliated with murder. Typical slasher film structure with victims inviting their own death through stupidity. Cookie cutters are used on victims as well as sharp end candy canes and icicles. Directed by Glen Morgan who goes for the same appeal that he used with his remake of Willard, but despite the creepy atmosphere of the house he fails to make sense of it. Absolutely nobody in the cast is given anything above the standard buffoon idiot. Katie Cassidy was also guilty of taking part in that when a Stranger Calls rehash. Michelle Trachtenberg was in Harriet the Spy ten years ago and has dropped so far since. Lacey Chabert was in Mean Girls and again, she has fallen since. Andrea Martin was the unlucky one recruited from the original film and probably envies the rest of the cast who went into hiding upon hearing that this was being made. Why a family holiday is reduced to this is something that only a grim mind can answer. This is a pointless piece of crap that should be torched over a campfire. Score: 2 / 10

No one watching this could argue there is anything remotely resembling an original idea here. From the killers "motivations", to the method in which the victims are dispatched, we've all seen it before. It was a nice touch to have a back story told through flashbacks, but the emphasis there was on the disturbing scenes for the sake of shock, and not on explaining motivation, which we simply have to cobble together on our own. Despite this lack of information most will guess the killers identity before the end. Having one killer "unknown" while the other is seen committing his murders leaving no hint of mystery is a nice touch though. They got a lot of talented actresses to appear in this schlock, I can only assume they were all going through dry patches in their careers. From a technical point of view I can't fault it. Scenes are shot well, editing is good, but the cant make up for the overall feel of the movie, which is the afore mentioned lack of originality. I know this is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, and even stars one of the original actors, but the question I have is, did this film really need to be remade? I don't believe so, and I think it's a symptom of the lazy and over all lack of originality sweeping the American movie industry now. As a rule of thumb, I no longer bother with remakes or sequels when they come out and only see them later, if they get great reviews.
