I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Heading out into the wilderness, a group of friends visiting an abandoned cabin in the woods find that the area holds a slew of possessed bodies inside and their presence has freed the demons into the group forcing the ones left to fight off the deadly beings to escape alive. This one was a decent if slightly problematic entry. When this one works, it's due to the rather enjoyable setup throughout the first half of the film to just dive straight into the plot without much hesitation. It doesn't take long for the group to suddenly start getting to the unleashed beings which is where the fun starts here as this one is pretty much non-stop from the start. The discovery of the doll and the unleashed terror that comes from that are pretty chilling, and the scenes down in the basement where the demonic figures begin toying with the trapped group come off really nicely as the concept behind these scenes is rather terrifying with the alternate portal being opened with the flashing light and distorted sounds constantly appearing throughout here. Since the group is constantly fighting off the different beings and possessed bodies being thrown their way, the action is rather constant here and the encounters only get more frantic and intense with the possessed continuously getting involved here in some incredibly trippy and distorted scenes featuring all sorts of demonic beings being present. Even the final confrontations are a lot of fun, and given that these basically bring about an endless slew of bloodletting and gory creature effects it does come off really nice overall. While these make this one a lot of fun, it does have a few issues here. One of the main ones is the fact that there's just not a whole lot of explanation for anything that goes on, making the scenes in here incredibly confusing more than scary. There's really little about the extended sequence of the demon coming through the TV set in the basement for minutes on end where all we see is distorted images of inhuman feet or legs while bestial growling plays during the whole sequence which registers because it's impossible to make out what's going on, and that this is a common occurrence throughout the film is a big drawback. Nothing really seems to happen for a reason here and the overall confusing nature of this one just makes for a really painful time trying to make sense of what's going on, from the nature of the possession to the need for the time-traveler being thrown into the mix as well. Likewise, the film's really low-budget does end up harming this one with the distorted voices being indecipherable, regular speaking voices being way too low to be heard properly and way too many dark scenes being blobs of pixels on-screen which makes it hard to tell the nature of the sequence. These here are what really hold this back.Rated R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

'Lake Fear' or 'Cypress Lake' or 'A Haunting At Cypress Creek' as my DVD cover called it is the story of four girls wearing short shorts who go out to a remote cabin and things start to happen. By the end of the film one wonders, what did happen? What was that all about? Once inside the house there is a relentless barrage of choppy editing, useless acting, shots in focus, shots out of focus (this becomes terribly irritating) and some unconvincing gore towards the end to try and breathe life into a long expired movie. Acting-wise it was amateur, particularly when the girls were in their bloody make-up so you couldn't even tell them apart. The music score is hilariously bad and the director had obviously plundered his DVD collection for lots of the imagery. The sound effects weren't awful, mainly in the beginning, so compliments for that. Otherwise a tangled mess with no rhyme or reason.Sad Cypress indeed.

Satirical opening, clichéd plot devices we have seen in many other horror movies and abandoned cabin!! This movie has it all.A couple of the performances were a bit flat, but that is okay. That is part of what made me realize that is was a movie made for the horror fan, the person that says "Oh wow, did you see that it was from...".The lighting, and visual textures were great! The effects were total over the top gore, and while the story would be a bit hard to follow if you were learning disabled, on drugs, or didn't put your phone down to actually watch a movie, it was a both really scary and intriguing. This is one that you can watch over and over again, and catch something new every time. Don't take this movie or yourself too seriously and you will have a great time watching it! Now I am off to buy a giant Texas belt buckle to polish!

At first I was pretty bored when the movie actually started, the acting made me sneer and the characters were just boring... Though my interest was sparked when that cat-eared one got pulled into the mud. Of course her acting made me cringe again. I was pretty hungry in the beginning of the movie but when I got to the end, I was no longer hungry, but sick. The end of the movie just seemed like series of disgusting gore-y scenes, starting from the tongue-splitting with a knife and ending with different other bloody scenes. What bothered me the most was the lack of actual screaming of pain. There was the guy who got stabbed to his hand repeatedly, the first reaction was just a gasp, followed by quite low grunts after next hits and the face was obviously faked. Normal human would do more than that.Anyway, I got to give it 3 points for actually managing to making me sick in stomach, doesn't happen often since I'm strong-stomached.
