Really Surprised!
... View MoreJust perfect...
... View MoreA movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
... View MoreAmazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
... View MoreHad potential, but disappointed that so many modern "agendas" are interjected into the series, just like every Hollywood movie and major TV series. These include: 1) Cheeky, precocious children who are smarter than Mom & Dad 2) Restless, unhappy feminist wives / daughters 3) Homosexuals who are clever, cultured and stylish 4) White heterosexuals who are buffoons and brutish 5) Minorities who are eloquent, compassionate and willing to assimilate or die trying, but are unfairly persecuted anyways Further criticisms include many miscast characters (Comanche chief who owns young Eli, Comanche brave who tosses young Eli from cliff, older Eli's grandsons, many Mexican neighbors), horrendous dialogue, terrible accents, a time-line that doesn't add up (81-year-old Pierce Brosnan?, when did Texas become a state?), misplaced cultural references for mid 1800s, unbelievable consequences of violence (young Eli survives fall from cliff, old Eli survives getting shot in torso, Eli's grandson survives getting shot in torso), comically bad relationship between young Eli and Comanche girl, etc. etc.
... View MoreThis is a great show. I love the history and detail of everything. The story line makes you wonder how things were back then. Always love shows that teach you history and entertain you at the same time. The acting is good. It's shows apart of the west that a whole lot others don't discuss. Worth watching
... View MoreI just saw the entire series over the last two days...The show shows different perspectives of the people in that region. Knowing that history as I do, it's a fair representation. Pondering what it must have been like to ward off an Indian attack. Or, moving about in hostile territory. Fighting and conquering and taking what you want. It was a very important time for the west, the actions taken in those days are still influencing these days more than a century later. All the actors do a great job in their roles and the action is very believable...A good job by AMC to bring a top quality show...I look forward to more seasons. Watch it; it's very entertaining.
... View MoreThe new AMC Western tells the story of a man and a boy, the same person at two different pivotal moments of his life. Eli McCullogh is shown as a young boy (Jacob Lofland) and an old man (Pierce Brosnan) who crosses the 19th Century into the 20th Century. As a young man, Eli is captured by Comanches as his family is killed. The older McCullogh lives in Texas and wars with a rival family from Mexico as he discovers oil on their land. The early story takes place in 1849 as the push West has threatened the native civilizations and the Comanches deal roughly with the invaders. Eli is a slave who grows to learn the ways of the Comanche under Toshaway (Zahn McClarnon). In 1915, Eli clashes with the Garcia, especially the patriarch Pedro Garcia (Carlos Bardem). It is not fully revealed all that Eli went through in his life right away but we slowly learn of his troubled past as people seeking vengeance come to take that in his old age. McCullogh did spawn a large family including Pete McCullogh (Henry Garrett) who is having an affair with Maria Garcia (Paola Nuñez). Pete's wife Sally (Jess Weixler) has left her life in Dallas behind but gets along more with Pete's brother Phineas (David Wilson Barnes) than her husband. During an attack on their house, Pete's daughter young Jeannie McCullogh (Sydney Lucas) rides through the Garcia land and returns after the chaos with oil on the horse's shoes. Eli discovers this and becomes obsessed.Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com
