The Worst Film Ever
... View MoreOk... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
... View MoreBy the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
... View MoreAn old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
... View MoreHave to say story was great until late season 2 where it was all of the sudden met with absolute "WTF" moments. Where strategical masterminds make decisions that leaves you thinking "is this person a moron". But then it leads back to fire the guy who does the writing because he's most deffinately destroying a series which could have been really good.
... View MoreI regard Frontier as a lower-tier example of the narrative-heavy shows most famously represented by Game of Thrones, Black Sales, and Vikings. The show has its flaws--the writing and accents often misrepresent the show makers' desired setting, and it is an objectively poor representation of Canadian history via the Hudson Bay Company fur trade. And while I do believe that better historical consultation would realize Frontier's potential and produce a show as solid as the three listed earlier, these flaws did not prevent me from becoming invested and happily entertained by Frontier's patiently-paced chess-like narrative via the interlacing dynamics between its ensemble of characters, all of whom are wholesome and human. The story begins slowly but grows steadily more intense with each episode, and greatly benefits from all-or-nothing performances by Jason Momoa and Alun Armstrong and beautiful period costuming and production design (to my lay eyes, anyway). Either I'm just an easily-entertained fool, or my patience was rewarded as its plot points violently converged on each other in the later half of season 1. I was thrilled when Netflix released Season 2.
... View MoreI love shows set in this time period. The intro to the show is really cool with the maps, native American song, and images. It always gets me excited for the show! The acting is decent and they did a good job with the historical settings. The story is definitely over the top. The protagonists are unstoppable and the antagonists are hopelessly inept. One would wonder how the HBC was so successful and the British built the largest empire in history when a few protagonists can oppose them with such ease. I did enjoy some stunning views and some compelling moments in the acting.
... View MoreWhen I saw the television preview for this I got a little excited, thinking maybe this would be on the same level as Taboo with Tom Hardy. I had hopes that Jason Momoa would provide a complex character with depth and had expected him to be the lead role.Needless to say this series did not reach anywhere close to my hopes. It feels like all the characters are trying too hard and the only real danger is that Lord Benton (Alan Armstrong) wants most of the characters dead. From the very start I found the characters bland. Captain Chesterfield (Evan Jonigkeit) plays a fool that throws temper tantrums every minute. I'm not even sure why the Priest is in the series at all.In short it all feels hollow and I stopped watching after the third episode. If you want to watch something that depicts the time of the fur trade try The Revenant (2015) or even better pick up a book like The Orenda by Joseph Boyden. At least those have feeling to them.
