Nice effects though.
... View MoreIt’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
... View MoreJust intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
... View MoreClose shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
... View MoreI was surprised and saddened that Comedy Central would cancel his series. Larry is funny, intelligent and a gentleman. I'm surprised nobody caught on to his show. Larry has had an impressive curriculum vitae. Maybe his humor isn't for everybody. He never talked down to his audience but to them with respect and reverence. His series raised awareness about issues especially police brutality against African Americans. As a white person, I was never offended by Wilmore or his commentators. I would have hoped that white viewers would open their eyes and listen to them. I hope Larry Wilmore finds a home elsewhere on television.
... View MoreColbert was so good at making rather depressing true topics, more light and interesting. My problem with Larry's show is it is not diverse topically at all! to the point that I stopped watching a show I had watched nightly for over 5 years. basically every episode goes this way A. Injustices towards African Americans today, and B. annoyingly pro democrat political banter. They really manage to make me feel alienated for being a white person. I mean I agree we have issues in society to address, Larry however seems to ONLY talk about that. He's just incredibly boring, and I would REALLY love to know when they will make an episode and not dedicate 90% of it to racism. I do not want to go to bed thinking about such negative stuff. Fire larry, i know its a late time slot but I shouldn't be bored to sleep!
... View MoreI see a lot of one star ratings about this show, I can't project on why those viewers did not like this show, but after viewing it from the start, it has gotten progressively better, it's at it's zenith. Larry opens and holds the conversation that the country doesn't want to have, but does so with humor and empirical data. This smart combination is presented in a format that allows us to laugh not at racial issues, but why we feel the way we do about those issues. Larry rips through the machinations of our Eurocentric culture and digs into the id and unveils what we have the hardest time observing, our nature. This is all done with great satirical wit and a strong sense of irony that permeates the conversation. The best part of the show is Wilmore, what you see is what you get, him being true to himself as comedian and satirist alone is worth the price of the ticket, your time.
... View MoreI really, _really_ wanted to like this show, as a longtime TDS/Colbert viewer who generally enjoyed Wilmore as the TDS "Chief Black Correspondent". I think at this point it's fair to say I've given Wilmore's show more than a fair shot, but here's the problem: He just doesn't have today's mandatory combination of comedic brilliance, broad-based political gravitas and plain old charisma to pull off a show of his own in this genre. Granted, the Stewart/Colbert/Maher/Oliver axis have set the bar for this kind of host extremely high. However, the fact remains that Wilmore was a poor choice to fill Colbert's old time slot, as he simply isn't broadly-based or, well, funny enough to carry it off. This fundamental weakness is exacerbated by the fact that his writers and panel guests (who are all too often the same people) range from tiresome to downright terrible, and the sameness of the show's content ("Black issues! Finally, we're getting a vehicle with which to give them the attention they deserve!") is so oppressively (sorry) relentless, day in and day out, that the end result is unwatchable. At least in its current incarnation, this is essentially a predictable, one-note show, hosted by a guy who, while clearly a talented writer, just doesn't have enough scope to fill the suit here. I really wish he was better at what he's trying to do than he is, because the truth is, we could really do with the perspective of a truly sophisticated black comedian/writer who genuinely is in the same talent stratum as Stewart/Colbert/Maher/Oliver; it would be refreshing and necessary. Trouble is, Wilmore ain't that guy. Now, I've seen some people jump in here in a very reactionary way, complaining about the torrent of negative reviews, with the basic thesis of "stop criticizing Larry, it's early days, give him time! Look how Stewart was in the beginning!" Sorry kids, but this doesn't hold water. Stewart was indeed a bit awkward at the start, but the evidence of his brilliance and sharp intellect was there from the beginning, despite the ill-fitting suits. Wilmore, however, has far more fundamental deficiencies, and sadly, they're of the sort that can't be fixed with superficial mid-season tweaks.
