Based only on 1.3 seasons I love this series. They were, tbh, fools to hold this from the world unless they already saw an end for it - I've not seen it all but the end happening a year or so after opening up to USA networks can't a coincidence.Anyway - a GREAT watch - and Lynda Boyd is SO very hot. Great fun - lots of drama and sadness and laughs - great mix. And set in lovely environment for a change - what's not to love.Acting is exceptional, direction beyond that. Dialogue has one or two 'would someone say that then' moments but half are clearly a joke - sad about the others.I've recommended this - and would to even those I don't know.Loving it so far

It's a great show to watch. It is not too serious, they didn't have to kill off characters to keep it interesting like some. There is some comedy and good actors. You have to use your imagination a little because obviously they cannot fit everything into one show. It's a show you can skip some and continue watching without worrying you missed something. I really enjoyed learning about Newfoundland and it was interesting how the culture is different from where I live. I am watching the whole series a second time. I wish there were more shows out there like this one. Too bad it ended but that way they didn't ruin the story either. I think I would like to visit Newfoundland now that I have seen some of it on this show.

Just found this show New Year's Eve 2014...Adding it to my list of Good Crime Series. I love the father, Sean McGinly, having seen him in many UK shows...Dalziel & Pascoe and New Tricks come to mind. Read a lot of the comments. I would watch the show without any of the other supporting cast. Sean could carry a show all by himself. The lead son in handsome, but I find his character annoying. The new wife is pretty good. The grand-daughter is annoying and unnecessary to any of the shows I have seen thus far. Don't quite get the X stuff and way too much SEXual sub- plots, again, so unnecessary to the stories. However, the MUSIC each story is GREAT and the Scenery is absolutely AWESOME. Worth seeing, will see how I feel after catching up to the 2014 season. I watched an Aussie Crime series that ran there for years, can't recall the name right now...I watched all, it was OK...but took me forever to get into the series, an entire season, where this one took after the 1st episode. Not in my Top10, but better than the Aussie Series.

I just watched episode one thru twelve and enjoyed to locations and visual shots here and there of various parts of town. The opening noise called "Oh Yeah" deserves a huge "Oh No". It is loud, lyrics consist of two offensively shouted lyrics and is nonsense. In the beginning they used to insert similarly loud noise (passed off as music) between scenes but that seems to have softened towards later episodes. And now for the cast:The Hero: Quirky, lots of human frailties, faults and goofiness. Works very well. Could soloeasily if the father somehow left the show.Malachy the Father: Familiar face, only real purpose is to wisecrack. Could be left out.Niki: The doctor soon to be ex-wife Wac job. Too schizo, gets tiresome. Please go.Des: The teen kid goof ball. I like him, think he adds to the showTinny: The ballsy teen daughter. All shows need a ballsy teen daughter. Formula.Rose: Malachy's Susan Sarandon look-alike lady friend. OK, like her better than Malachy.Leslie: The policewoman. I like her the best. She add more interest to plots than any other. The Horn Toad blond lawyer friend: He is always fun, and his appearances nice and short. In a couple of episode we had Rose's husband just released from prison. Uncomfortable. In another, a long lost brother Christian shows up, turns out he is just out of rehab and a bunch of crooked lawyers are trying to do him in for whistle blowing. Uncomfortable. Streamed these in the U.S. via my Acorn membership, anticipate future series hoping the sub-plot characters stop and hope the writing gets more crisp.
