A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

At the moment I'm binge watching the series backwards. (mid season 3 now) Qua characters, It's nice to see "old acquaintances" back again. I love the concept and stories, a great variety of subject matters. What I especially love is the choice of music: wonderful oldies coming by - a treat on it's own.If you're looking for for decent detective series, with skilled actors and excellent supporting songs, this is the series for you.

Most crime shows give their undivided attention to the culprits, leaving the victims as nameless, faceless plot devices. Cold Case takes a different route, giving life to these victims, treating them humanely and respectfully and putting them at its heart. And through the eyes of the victims, the show subtly addresses many past (and present) social issues, telling the harrowing stories of millions of people subject to systemic oppression and cultural degradation as defining hindrances throughout their lives. Cold Case isn't afraid to shed light on stories which are largely swept under the rug out of guilt, fear and ignorance. Though the show takes advantage of its platform, Cold Case never pontificates but rather gives viewers a window into the lives of disadvantaged people as they simply try to navigate around the many obstacles in their paths. It sets aside the typical rich white male hero archetype to give the vulnerable - the impoverished, women, people of color, LGBT people, etc. - their chance to have their stories told. In turn, people whom society regularly spits on are given representation in its purest form. And with stirring music, powerful writing and compassionate characters, Cold Case injects human emotion and heart into every frame, poignantly illuminating the tragedies of these disenfranchised people in hopes of spreading empathy in a largely merciless society. The show will often leave you moved, inspired and teary-eyed, profoundly resonating with you unlike anything you've ever seen.

Television today often relies on sleazy comedy and bad CGI, with little or no story and too much drama. Cold Case begs to differ. It has the right amount of drama without overdoing it, is very suspenseful at all the right times, captures the nostalgia of different decades with song hits of the times and matching everything from the music, fashion, hair styles and cars to the exact year the crime took place. It is impossible to not immediately like the detectives of the Cold Case unit. There's Lilly Rush, the main character who at first glance looks like a bimbo but when she talks throughout the show she's actually an intelligent and skilled member of the team, with a past she shared with her alcoholic mother, absent father and promiscuous sister. She views Lt. Stillman as a father figure, because he was the first one to help her when she was a child and her mother sent her out into a bad situation. Scotty Valens is Lilly's partner, a street-smart and aggressive but nice guy who is a valued member of the group. He is Cuban; his father moved to the States in the 1950's. He has an extreme dislike for pedophiles because of a past incident with his older brother and a boxing coach, so he is very good at bringing pedophiles to justice. Nick Vera is the overweight joke of the group at first but is actually really caring towards children and wished he could have had a family of his own. He's great at solving crimes and at playing "No Drugs Tonight" with Scotty and Will. Will Jeffries is Nick Vera's best friend and excellent at solving murders; he has an extreme dislike towards racism and hit-&-run cases. His own wife was squashed to death by a mystery trucker years ago and he wants some sort of revenge. Kathrine (Kat) Miller is the only other female detective on the team, becoming a permanent addition to the show around Season 3. She is the single mother of her beloved daughter Veronica and a valued detective who knows a lot about the street gangs from her undercover years. John Stillman is in charge, his team affectionately calls him Boss and he is estranged from his family due to his career. He views his team like his family and tries to help each of them as much as possible.Sadly Cold Case was canceled recently; it's my favorite show of all time. It tackles crimes relating to issues like the barbaric treatment for mental patients in the 50's and 60's (lobotomy and electro-shock therapy), homophobia, racism, rape, pedophilia, abortion, religion, suicide, racism, sexism, pollution (check out the episode Breaking News for that) and child abuse. While helping the forgotten victims rest in peace the team is able to find answers to their own problems. The show doesn't try to sneak romance in too much; most crime shows make the two main characters as lovers but in Cold Case Lilly and Scotty are just best friends. He is there when her mother dies and rescues her from a killer named Ed, whereas Lilly keeps secrets for him revolving around the crime with his older brother. The show has episodes featuring songs by bands like the Fixx, the Doors, Tears for Fears, Joy Division, Nirvanna, the Cure and Depache Mode. There are some totally heartbreaking episodes like Sleepover, Baby Blues, Boy Crazy, the Goodbye Room, Wishing, Committed and the Good Death as well as some suspenseful episodes like Stalker, Officer Down, the Woods and Flashover. All in all this is a beautifully made and amazing show that will hopefully be remembered among fans forever. I think Lilly Rush's actress is now being considered in the remake of the 1976 slasher film Alice, Sweet Alice (according to Wikipedia anyway), so hopefully we'll see her in more crime movies and shows. Still, Cold Case I wish had been continued, why it was shut down in the making is a mystery to me but I'm really glad to have the seven seasons around, I'll remember it forever. It was based off the Canadian crime drama show Cold Squad, but although I live in Canada I honestly think Cold Case was much better. It's totally worth watching, if you ever have the chance to see it, check it out, you'll love it, guaranteed!Funny moments worth seeing: In one episode Scotty and Will cut off the end of Nick's best necktie. A couple episodes later Nick gets even as only he can: stapling Will's tie to the case file he's reading and taping a sign to the back of Scotty's shirt that reads "Ask Me About Erectile Dysfunction". "No Drugs Today" from the episode "Glued": Scotty, Will and Nick sitting on a street corner in lawn chairs, munching on burgers and flashing their badges at every car that drives by looking for their regular drug dealers. At the end of the night they're standing around a burn barrel and Nick's wishing for marshmallows. The episode after Will is shot, the other detectives are putting together a "get well basket" for him. Stillman and Scotty wind up bringing the exact same bottle of wine, deciding to sign both of their names to one and keep the other, while Nick's contribution is sea monkeys. Will busting a move in the squad room at the end of "Disco Inferno", after being razzed about disco by his colleagues earlier in the episode. Any time Nick winds up becoming interested in something that was an important part of a victim's life, like Tupperware in "Wednesday's Women".In "Roller Girl" Miller is anxious about a blind date her mother set up. She later calls Scotty late at night, drunk, for a ride. Scotty won't let her forget it. Even if for some ludicrous reason you decide you hate Cold Case, check these hilarious moments out just for laughs.

I love this show for several reasons...First,I grew up in Philly. They get the names, places, ethnic backgrounds etc, SPOT ON.The story lines are terrific. Most unusual for a cop show, the majority of their interviews are non-confrontative, leaving the detectives to piece out what happened based on a combination of matching discrepancies, gut instinct, and often the perp's desire to just have it over with after all these years. The music often lends an additional level of sadness and poignancy. I'm not sentimental by nature, but I confess there were several endings that left me in tears, like "The Runner" when Lilly brings back the old addict to the woman whose late husband wanted to adopt her. I tear up just thinking about it.And this may seem an odd point, but it's actually a compliment. Unlike, say, CSI Miami, these people don't look like they just stepped off a modeling shoot. Kathryn Morris is quite pretty, but not so much that it would intimidate your average woman to go get botoxed: she's just naturally cute. Ditto Danny Pino; he's attractive but not to the point where more regular-looking guys wouldn't invite him out for a beer. They also lead more regular lives than most TV characters: a few have or had wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, and kids. In addition to work, they also deal with the same stuff most of us do every day.In short, the show works beautifully and is truly original. Great acting, writing, and consistency. Suurprised no Emmys have come its way.
