TrueHello

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Unfriended: Dark Web: Matias (Colin Woodell) is a bit of a nerd but he really loves his deaf girlfriend, Amaya (Stephanie Nogueras), he's working on an app to translate his spoken words into text but she would prefer if he learned sign language, things aren't going great. but it's games night and he joins his friends online to have some fun. He has a new laptop and and as the games progress he finds hidden files and a Norah C IV starts to contact him claiming the laptop is hers, yes: he found it. But the files turn out to be vids of women who have been kidnapped and the abductors could have murdered them. The gamers are drawn into a game of cat and mouse with the denizens of the Dark Web as Amaya comes under threat.Tension builds throughout the film as the action unfolds on Skype, messages, pop-up screens and side windows. Unwise decisions are made as the online and real world battle ensues. Adequate acting all round apart from a few OTT moments by gamer AJ (Conor Del Rio) result in a convincing enough film with some shocks and frights. A worthy directorial debut by Stephen Susco who also provides the screenplay. 7.5/10.

I'm going to start off by saying that I actually personally enjoyed the film. More jumpscares, better deaths, and a more overall realistic approach that the first installment failed to produce. The whole movie leaves an eerie feeling as the whole theme is based on a real thing known as the dark web (although it's greatly exaggerated in the film) it still leaves a mark after you leave the theater. Overall the movie is great, although it's more of a "watch it at home" type movie rather than actually going to the theater.

I enjoyed this movie, and I became all-in on the inventive format after the first few minutes. In a theater, some of the text was difficult to read, but this is an ideal film for watching at home on a laptop. I was on the edge of my seat, the story had me guessing, and the experience was great horror. However, the film pulled most of its punches. Grisly deaths were teased, which was terrific suspense, but it never once went there. Most deaths happened off camera, something that irks me, especially since I felt the film had earned a few horrific all-out moments. Also, the ending was not all it could have been. It was cool, but it also felt cheated. I especially loved the payoff of the missed sign language classes., But please filmmakers, please really think through your endings. The film would have had such a bigger impact if the audience was really made to experience a stunning revelation instead of just a placeholder for one. Too many jumps in logic caused the missed experience. For example, how did our evil charon's know Matias would ask his girl to meet where they first kissed?

While it holds the same sort of premise as the first with the whole computer screen view it is not like the first movie. The first one kind of sucked with all the super natural stuff going on in it. This one was more grounded in realism which helps it a lot and distinguishes it from the first one. Don't expect a magical experience that you'll walk away from thinking you have to see this again but you can expect to go away from it with a thought that this movie was not that bad at all. Kind of interesting and it might be worth watching a second time just to try to catch any minor small details you might have missed watching it the first time. Ir sort of creates that affirmation that the dark web is rather dark and not something to tread lightly in.So if you're looking for a movie that's not exactly horror but more thriller with some dark overtones and can spare about an hour and a half then this is the one to catch.
