Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.

Good start, but then it gets ruined

the magic is the purpose in this case. not only the magic of images but , more important, the magic of relationship. an old legend, a meeting, a story. nothing too complicated but seductive at all. because it represents just a modern fairy tale. because it has good actors and a credible young character. because it is a war story. different by many others. but useful for the crumbs of clichés who are keep in right places. a film about friendship. in many nuances and attitudes and choices. the delicate British spirit, the not bad job of Alex Etel, a sensitive manner by Ben Chaplin to do the hero traces. short - a lovely film. full of magic.

I'm sorry, another 10/10. It seems I'm watching very good movies these times...I had seen this one before. In fact, this was the third time. First times, I was really moved by the story, but I got a better view, a better comprehension now.The "monster" represents the child's world, his need for friendship & love. All the others (let's say "the mean ones") are "the adults who don't understand the world a child lives in. Be it monster, be it a pet (I'm "grown up" and I have a black English Cocker Spaniel I have an exceptional relationship with, and I would die for him).Relationships, that's what this movie's about. Told in a very beautiful way. For all audiences, except "too young children"...

Water Horse: Legend of the Deep is a much better film than I expected it to be. This movie is great for the entire family to watch together. There is no cursing and very little action. This movie has a central theme that is great for the family. The theme is about friendship and bonding with others.This film is about a young kid during the World War 2 era who finds a unusual egg in the famous loch lake in Scotland. It turns out that the egg ends up being a mystical water horse and the young kid begins a friendship that will change his life forever.The acting is solid for the most part. Alex Etel who plays Angus did a decent job but sometimes got on my nerves. The rest of the cast including Emily Watson and David Morressy did a good job.Overall, this is a great, magical film the whole family will enjoy. The special effects, music, and direction are standouts of this film. I rate this film 9/10.

A real family that deals with friendships in a realistic fashion. The Water Horse isn't just a cute little creature. It starts off that way, with a number of comical scenes involving a baby monster. It soon turns a lot darker, where the monster is truly a wild creature and capable of great harm. The film holds up as we wonder if the friendship between Angus and monster will hold up. A lot of the film was rather slow, as it took a while to get anywhere. We are given some repetitive scenes, such as baths for the monster, and at least 2 chases involving the monster and dog. I also wasn't a fan of the movie being told as a story. It gave off a creepy vibe from Brian Cox, like he just sits in the pub all day rambling on. The CGI creature is very consistent, and the action scenes do have some dread to them. A nice watch for families, that doesn't patronize nor embarrass.
