The Unfolding Trailers

It is 2016 and a fearful world seems to be on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. A researcher in psychical events and his girlfriend travel to deepest Dartmoor to investigate a centuries-old building. What they unlock and discover is way more than they could have ever bargained for. An exciting first feature from newcomer Eugene McGing, who expertly takes familiar tropes and gives them a fresh spin in this genuinely terrifying haunted house tale.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

It can be tough to make a scary movie these days. There are so many that it's easy to believe you've been there/done that. What counts is the characters, THEN the story. That's why I love THE UNFOLDING. Well-drawn characters with a terrific premise of the world at war while people try to deal with what's going on in a haunted house. It's found footage but not jerky and the scares are real and "earned" so stick with it to the really amazing ending. This is one film that can stand near THE HAUNTING, THE INNOCENTS and THE CHANGLING!

Whatever deep meaning there was supposed to be within this film it passed me by completely. Lots of sudden loud noise shocks, ludicrous decisions and poor acting as is often the case in this type of film. I am occasionally pleasantly surprised by poorly rated films but not in this case. More than one star is generous. The science quoted is garbage, the behaviour nonsensical and the psychic, as well as the "effects", straight out of one of those awful TV shows like "Ghost-hunters". I wouldn't even consider it worthy as an "Ironing" film. It's like a low budget "Paranormal activity" and even though more happens in this film I found it to be similarly pointless. If you are looking to waste the odd 90 minutes of your life then go ahead with this trash. If not look elsewhere.

All of these favorable reviews were posted within days of the films release (March 14th 2016) and many claim to be from England (filming location of movie) Many of these reviewers have ONLY reviewed ONE FILM! (This one) All of these reviewers gave this film AT LEAST 8 stars. If anyone involved in the film (aka the fake reviewers) is reading this, please take note: YOU ARE RUINING IMDb! It has become a biased, fictitious ratings-land where the average consume cannot get an objective review of a film.My suggestion: move along to a film that stands on its own merit and doesn't need to trick you into viewing.

I love the horror genre. I especially love that it has made something of a resurgence over the past decade. Horror is smart, artistic and very much maligned by film academia. For almost 20 years horror genre lovers were left out in the cold by the movie industry and the genre has finally been given the place it deserves (at the top of the list for ratings, box office, artistry and innovation). With such a resurgence comes the ability for first time movie makers and those working to small budgets the opportunity to delve into the genre's murky waters and get their feet wet. These small budget horrors should receive plaudits not just because the work is of interest but because the struggle from concept to screen is extraordinary and arduous. The Unfolding is one of those movies. You can tell from the very opening sequence to its very dying breath that this movie was a labour of love. It brought together a cast of unknowns (in every field) and created a piece of work that stands up against its multi-million dollar counterparts and in some instances outshines them. As with all good horror movies the score is everything and The Unfolding's score is magnificent and becomes a character in its own right. The imagery, performances and direction are also to be commended and as an initial foray into the genre Eugene McGing should be especially applauded. I don't scare very easily but there were moments during this movie that were genuinely chilling.
