The Stoning of Soraya M is based on a true story where a husband (Ali) wants to get rid of his wife (Soraya) so he could go marry somebody else, so they plot to kill her by throwing stones at her until she dies. The stoning scene is certainly not for the faint of heart, it really disturbed and upset me. I hate the fact that women in the middle east are still being treated like this! And they always go on about how they're doing this for god, god wouldn't have wanted any of this! God wants peace and love. Please watch this movie, it is a must see before you die! Also when you finish watching this, tell your friends about this movie and they'll recommend it to their friends as well! This is a story that deserves to be heard.

The movie starts out with Soraya M. already dead. Her aunt is cleansing her bones in the river for burial. A stranger comes to town who is a French Journalist who speaks Arabic. He is desperate to get out of Iran under the recent takeover of the Ayatollah. His car has broken down and a woman , Zahra, Soraya's aunt, confronts when with a graphic tale on how the men of the village misused Sharia law to stone Soraya M. to death. She even was able to tell him about things that happened in private conversations in which she wasn't present. (Makes for a better drama by filling in those gaps.) Soraya is wrongfully accused of adultery by her husband who coerces another man to be his witness.Several things are brought out in this movie. One is that women lived better under the Shah dictatorship than Sharia law. The elders of the community have invoked Sharia law because it appears to be the wish of the Ayatollah and Allah, and it is convenient for them. The movie is an emotional roller coaster. The stoning scene is graphic and is done that way for a reason: to show you how barbaric it is. It is an emotional tear jerker that will leave you both angry and sad. English subtitles.

Women are abused in the Middle East and are treated like rats. Period! With ridiculous and evil aspects of The Middle Eastern culture that promote violence and inequality for women, it's no wonder that a film about the horrors a woman faces in The Middle East is breathtaking and disturbingly powerful. A drama set in 1986 Iran and centered on a man, Sahebjam, whose car breaks down in a remote village and enters into a conversation with Zahra, who relays to him the story about her niece, Soraya, whose arranged marriage to an abusive tyrant had a tragic ending in "The Stoning of Soraya M." Unbiased cultural attributes formatted by director Cyrus Nowrasteh portray the harsh reality for women in The Middle East. The previous relationship with Soraya and her family is more haunting than the actual violence she faces. We see how this trapped woman faced her families oppression and how her own husband and sons turned against her throughout her entire life. With stunning cinematography and symbols added in to create an emotional and mental struggle for the audience and the protagonist, this film will leave you haunted and moved about a degrading belief system that pollutes a gigantic region of the largest of the seven continents. Not getting too political, this film focuses more on how a certain character is trapped in her own life and how hope and desire are what feed her a sense of happiness and relief. Look deeper into the picture and you'll get a fine human drama that activates the most dangerous practice women face in The Middle East.
