This movie puts Denzel Washington's Florida police chief into a situation that seems to be dragging him further and further down. This situation is something that he does bring on himself. He is cheating on his wife with a high school sweetheart, herself still married to an abusive former football player played by Dean Cain. But after she puts him as the beneficiary on her life insurance and then she and her husband end up dead, the police chief finds himself as the prime suspect. It is definitely a goofy movie. All these reveals come complete with swelling music. Denzel Washington does his best to get ahead of the investigation which is naturally headed up by his wife. Just coincidence after coincidence. Nothing really comes out of left field for this film. You seem everything coming a mile away and the comedic relief medical examiner is too over the top and kind of grates on your nerves. If you like this sort of movie, it's okay but ultimately for me it's just not very good. I give this movie a D.
... View MoreWhat really stands out for me about "Out of Time" is just how nicely it captures the hot and steamy locale of coastal Florida in the Summer, right down the sex scenes (with a score that perfectly suits). You can just feel the humidity. But aside from the stunning Eva Mendez, that's about it. The movie does kick into moderate gear with Denzel running interference between police and the mounting evidence of his involvement in the double homicide - which becomes preposterous at times, but solid direction keeps things moving. Still, the coincidences are absurd, and rob the movie of any depth. Plus, it's Dean Cain as the villain; a recent graduate of the Hasselhoff School of Goateed Bad Guy Acting.6/10
... View MoreMatt Lee Whitlock (Denzel Washington) is the police chief of Florida small town Banyan Key. He just cracked a big drug case confiscating $450k. He's getting divorced from fellow police officer Alex (Eva Mendes) and having an affair with Anne Merai Harrison (Sanaa Lathan) who is separated from violent husband Chris (Dean Cain). Anne has just been diagnosed with cancer, and Matt takes the $450k for Anne's treatment. However, the money, Anne and Chris all burnt up in a suspicious fire. This has a great noir sweaty style. Matt's questionable morality is interesting. I prefer his problems be forced upon him. However most of his problems are self-inflicted by his lack of judgment. There is a lot of things that needs to be overlook in this movie. While I like the style, the story needs a little help.
... View MoreMatt Whitlock, the police chief of a small town near Florida, is separated from his wife, Alex, a detective also based in Florida. He's been having an affair with Ann Harrison, a woman who's wants to escape from her husband.Ann also has terminal cancer. When her doctor tells her of a new treatment that's too expensive, he gives her nearly half a million dollars that he seized from some drug dealers. When she turns up dead, all the evidence points to Whitlock. He tries to figure out what's going on but it appears he's been set up...Denzel has a knack of always releasing a movie in the first few months of the year here in the UK, and whilst sometimes they are not groundbreaking, he always manages to raise the bar on the averageness of the whole thing. The Book Of Eli, Safe House, and the Bone Collector are a few, and this is another one of those cases. While you watch the film, you get lost in the ridiculousness of it all, and its tense to boot, but after, when you are thinking about the movie, it does get you thinking 'hang on? He got away with what?'.So despite the plot holes and the silly narrative, its exciting in a cheap Hitchcock rip off style. The locations are great, supporting cast good, and there are a couple of tense moments, particularly when Matt tries to cover up the phone calls and tracking down someone in a hotel. It just shows how classy an actor such as Washington, can bring the mundane into something very interesting. It's nothing remarkable, but it entertains while it lasts...
