The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

If they had used anyone but Lee Evans this would have been much better.Jackie usually overdoes his scenes but Lee Evans made a shambles out of every scene he was it. Seems as if he and the director thought they were doing Saturday Night Live instead of making a movie. The kid is cute and -- despite the age difference, the romance was OK. The story is silly, but it's Jackie Chan. There are some funny situations, but Lee ruined many of those with his extreme over-acting.

They put this on the television the other night, and that would have been the second time I'd watched this film if I hadn't realised how crap it was twenty minutes into it and switched it off. The Medallion is the absolute worst Jackie Chan film...a film that takes a similar plot to the Tuxedo of all things and chucks in a bit of The Golden Child to make a confusing unfunny mess of a movie. They must have had some amount of trouble during the production of this film, because the story seems chopped up into little bits, not a lot of it makes much sense, and the DVD extras contain scenes unrelated to the story. Plus (or minus even) - it has Lee Evans in it, and he's not funny, Julian Sands, who is just plain crap, and some chick who had learned every 'coy' chick facial expression but is completely confused as to when and where to use them, and therefore throws every expression into every scene. On with the story. The Golden Child has been kidnapped and...no wait. The Chosen One, a kid with a medallion, can somehow bring back the dead with special powers, and Julian Sands wants these powers. He sends loads of crap gangsters out to carry out this task (I think this bit takes place in Hong Kong), and in a very Golden Child-like scene Jackie rescues him. Or doesn't. Because after a brief introduction to Julian Sands, we are now shown the gangsters with the kid (wait I'm confused...looking back I think there were too different container filled ship scenes here...one in Honk Kong and one in Dublin (?)) This is the trouble with this flick. It jumps from one scene to another without any kind of warning. One minute every one is in London - the next Dublin - then seemingly back in London again (I think). Jackie and the bad acting chick had apparently split up and Jackie had also fell out with Lee Evans, and they are all cops or agents or something. No wait - they are Interpol...I remember now. I'll cut this short - Jackie gets killed and the kid brings him back with superpowers, meaning he can get shot and jump really high and run really fast but Julian Sands gets the same powers and they fight it out in Julian's high tech baddie lair. Chick gets killed but then brought back and she and Jackie fly off into the sunset. Lee Evans pulls some faces. The first time I watched this film me and the missus sat for a while trying to figure out what was going on. Here are some of the questions that arose during this film:1. If the kid is Chinese why does he have a cockney (or dutch) accent? 2. Why Dublin? Has Jackie run out of exotic locations to travel to? 3. Why is it never explained why Lee Evans' wife is suddenly a shotgun shooting karate expert when previously she didn't even know Lee Evans was an Interpol agent? 4. When Jackie saves the kid from drowning in the water filled container, how come Jackie is drowning and yet can put his hand inside the inflatable tent without any water going in? 5. Am I crazy or does no one get killed in this film? 6. Why does Jackie have such bad luck when making films in the US? 7. Why, if that's the case, can you not escape from this fortress? 8. You're my little brother, Mikey! 9. It's Chinatown. 10. Boingo! 11. 1..1.1..11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1111.1.1.1.111.1.1.111.1.1.1.1 Sorry - I got bored back there...This film isn't worth watching

Recap: Police officer Eddie Yang traces known gangster Snakehead to Ireland after Snakehead kidnapped a holy kid in Hong Kong. According to the myth, the kid, with a certain medallion, can resurrect people and give them superpowers (like immortality). Yang, and his colleagues Watson and James, tries to free the kid as Snakehead tries to smuggle the kid into Ireland on a boat. The result however is that the kid and Eddie falls in to the water, trapped in a container. Eddie drowns, but saves the boy, and in return, the boy later resurrects Eddie. Now, Eddie, with superpowers must stop Snakehead once and for all.Comments: I thought they really had something going there. Started out nice. As I expected, a lot of martial arts and fights, all nicely choreographed and with augmented with extra aids (like wires), of course, but still with a good feeling and some nice touches. The story was nothing fancy, but they had found the balance in the fights. Just enough fancy kicks and jumps. Action director Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan were onto something here. Then came the superpowers. Then everything went just silly. The balance went right out the window (along with Jackie Chan/Eddie Yang actually). Instead of nicely choreographed fights we get ridiculous fights with a lot of special effects. Net result; Silly. And the story didn't get any better either.Jackie Chan delivers what is expected of him, he does what he usually does. But I can't do anything but wonder why the character Arthur Watson is in the movie? To add some comic element apparently, as that was needed. Watson is annoyingly clumsy, petty and incompetent and has mysteriously risen to a high position within Interpol. Evans plays the part well, I guess he does what is asked of him, but again, why is the character in the movie? Claire Forlani got the role of Nicole James, agent/love interest, of Eddie Yang. Though Nicole is much more competent than Watson she is clearly side-stepped both in the movie and with the virtual Interpol. Therefore her role is small, her potential and talent not used, her major part is as the one taking care of the kid (Doh, she's a woman - and this is a boring stereotype). She gets to show her skill in martial arts a few times though, showing she (or her stunt double - some shots make it easy to assume she has one) got them. Her only major fight though is, of course, against the female bad guy (to the sound of screeching cats... oh, come on!).So, the beginning was promising, the second "half" disappointing. On average a 5.

erm i didn't find it really satisfying, it wasn't a jackie chan movie, i think if he had more control over the film it would be a lot better. jackie is known for his out rages stunts, for exciting viewers, but in this movie he used a lot of wires, for imitating the superpowers is alright but before when he was just human some of the jumps looked really fake and was just boring and took away the excitement. Lee evans was great i love his humor. I think the scene that lost most of my interest was the scene where he was chasing Johann Myers's character and was jumping over those small tables and barriers and you can clearly see that wires were used for such easy jumps. I think jackie should stop being sucked into these Hollywood/English movies and start creating his own, which i believe hes doing now....for example...the myth (brilliant movie) a must see. i don't think its your fault Jackie, just try not to get sucked into those Hollywood movie areas, you deserve better credit for what you've done in the past!!
