SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?

... View More***SPOILERS*** Hysterical beyond belief comedy flick about this Jewish certified circumcised private dick Mordechai Jefferson Carver, Adam Goldberg, known as the "Hebrew Hammer" who dresses up like Shaft and Superfly and knocks the ladies, both Jewish & non-Jewish, dead with his super cool personality and Arnold Schwarzenegger muscle flexing and head cracking like abilities.Mordechai or Mort for short is recruited by the JJL, The Jewish Justice League, to save the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah from being eliminated by young Damian Claus played by Andy Dick. Damian had it in for the Jewish Holiday of Lights-Hanukkah-as well as the African American version of it Kwanzaa for years. That in them interfering and competing with Chistmas and now in Damian being the new Santa Claus he has the power to do it. That's after him having done in, with the help of Santa's reindeer's, his Pop Old man Santa Claus, Ricard Riehle. It's Old man Santa whom Damian considered to be too liberal for his tastes in being in favor of letting everyone, regardless of race color and creed as well as religion, celebrate the winter holiday whichever way they choose. It took a while for Mort to except his holy mission to save Hanukkah in that he's been on the outs with the JJL for some time. That's in the JJL's top military chief the bagel lox & cream-cheese eating General Bloombergensteinenthal, played by a Moshie Dayan looking Peter Coyote, disagreement in his wholly unorthodox and non-Jewish crime fighting tactics. It was General "B" who had Mort booted out of that Jewsih crime fighting organization for going too far, to say the least, in his non-kosher like super crime fighting efforts. With the help of the Chief's pretty daughter Esther, Judy Geer, Mort changes his mind after a little physical, if you know what I mean, persuasion on Esther's part. Mort now seeing the light, glowing from the Hanukkah Menorah, and importance of his mission soon goes into action together with his comrade in arms KLF, Kwanzaa Liberation Front, Chief Mohammed Ali Paula Abdul Rahim, Mario Von Peebles,to stop the evil Santa from accomplishing his sinister attempt of putting an end once in for all to the ancient Jewish holiday of lights:Hanukkah!***SPOILERS*** Laugh a minute comedy as Mort & Mohammed, known as the M & M Boys, battle it out with Damian Claus and his evil Elf Tiny Tim, Shean Whalen, in preventing them from blotting or wiping Hanukkah off the face of the Jewish as well as non-Jewish calendars! The battle leads straight to the North Pole itself where a cornered like a rat Damian puts up his last stand to stop the "Hebrew Hammer" or Mort from keeping him from accomplishing his evil mission. But in the end Damian is stymied in Mort putting the guilt trip, in trying to destroy Hanukkah, on him that finally had Damian see the light as well as the evils of his ways. That lead the guilt ridden Damian Claus to almost beg Mort to do him in which in a show of genuine humanity, which Damian lacked, he doesn't.P.S Among everything else that Mort & Mohammed accomplish in the movie to save both Hanukkah as well as Kwanzaa in the end they even saved the life of former New York City Mayor Ed "How am I doin" Koch played by Koch himself in a cameo role. It was Koch who was being held hostage and set to be executed by Damian's hoof stomping and antler slicing reindeer when Damian felt the time was right and that he was no use, as a hostage, to him anymore.
... View MoreI completely enjoyed this film. It had all of the things that I think make a good movie. It was comedic, romantic, completely unorthodox and somewhat perverted. The storyline was put together very well and the actors and actresses completely fit the parts. I think you would enjoy this film much more if you were Jewish, but you would still understand most of it even if you weren't. I think this movie shouldn't be viewed by anyone under 11, depending on how fussy the parents are about their kids seeing a film with coarse language, mild sexuality and some violence. I, however am 12, and I thoroughly understood every joke in the movie, but that's only because I happen to be Jewish. I think comprehension is a major necessity in this film, because there are many references to Judaism. Thank you for reading my review.
... View MoreWhat Spinal Tap did to the Rocumentary and what Austin Powers did to the spy flick, The Hebrew Hammer attempts to do to testosterone induced rebel films. One's appreciation, or even toleration, of the Hebrew Hammer depends on whether or not they buy into it. It is ridiculous, sophomoric and potentially offensive to Jews, African-Americans, and even Christmasphiles. However, the script is witty and multidimensional. In addition, the performances delivered by Adam Goldberg, Judy Greer, and Mario Van Peebles strike a fine mix of funny, sexy, and cool.On the surface, the film is almost a series of sketch comedy scenes. Notable of which are when reindeer butcher Santa (shown silhouette a la Hitchcock) as the Christmas patriarch gasps, "Et tu Vixen.." Also when the hero's mother guilt-trick-manipulates him at the dinner table into doing exactly what he said that he would not do, save Hanukkah, five minutes prior. The amazing thing to me about the script was that, instead of existing in isolation such as in films like Anchorman, there is a sense of pacing, texture, and plot to the sketches as they make up a greater whole. The Hebrew Hammer is not going to change the world or revolutionize the film industry. Those very sensitive to racial stereotypes being exaggerated for humors' sake or generally possessing a PC disposition may want to avoid the movie. What the Hebrew Hammer does best is add a colorful, new dimension to the action, rebel-genre, parody.
... View MoreI picked up this movie because it caught my eye as movie with a Jewish comedy focus - something I had not seen before. I approached this film with an open mind, and was interested in the way it began. The opening is well put together, and the first half of the film gave me many reasons to laugh, and this is good. However, the humor soon became repetitive, the plot became confused and strained, and I realized I was no longer enjoying the film. I have tried to avoid saying this, but the movie became rather "cheap" - not a bad thing for a comedy if the humor holds up, but it didn't. I confess that I may have missed some of the humour, not being Jewish myself, and having little experience with Jewish culture. However, considering how heavily telegraphed the bulk of the humour was in this film, it's unlikely I missed much. The idea is a good one, and perhaps if a little more thought was put into it the film would have been watchable all the way through. I wish I could give the movie a higher rating, but strictly speaking it would have been better as a TV series or as a series of skits. There was just not enough worthwhile fresh material for a full-length movie. One thing to say about the casting - the lead role looked as if it had been designed with Ben Stiller in mind, but I don't think the movie would have been any more worthwhile if he had been in it.
