If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

For months, I waited with anticipation for HBO's adaptation of my favorite book Fahrenheit 451 to make its début; I was a huge fan of the book-obviously seeing as it's my favorite-and I also quite enjoyed the first 1996 movie adaptation when my teacher shared it with our class in 2011. Naturally, the 1996 lacked a few things, but seeing as the technological capabilities were limited then compared to what we have now that is to be expected, so when I heard HBO was doing an updated movie I was ecstatic and couldn't wait to see all of the things that had had to be left out in the 1996 version and when it popped up on my Hulu account to watch I was definitely excited...until I turned the movie on.The cast wasn't anything close to the characters in the novel, nor were the personalities that they portrayed onscreen. The story itself-to me at least-seemed to be changed and even dumbed down for the audience of todays generation and that saddened me alone. I could have stomached most of the movie if they had stayed true to the original plot. To me they have utterly destroyed one of my favorite books.Long story short, if you genuinely love the book and want to see it come to life on the big screen, don't watch this. If you're looking for an action/thriller sort if thing that seems to barely have a decent storyline and you've never read the book, then you're good.

Neither this film nor the earlier movie is as good as a plagiarized TV version from 1957. In 1957 Playhouse 90 aired a play called "The Sound of Different Drummers. It starred Sterling Hayden and a top notch cast directed by John Frankenheimer. The next day Ray Bradbury received a deluge of calls from his friends. He was not given credit, paid or asked permission to use his work. It included the big scene of a woman preferring to burn to death surrounded with her book collection. There was nothing about DNA nor an injected bird. John Ireland played Hayden's supervisor in the Fire Department. Diana Lynn played the woman who introduces Hayden to book reading from books seized by the department to be burned, This new version is really bad from every aspectHe was outraged and sued CBS. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court and he won and collected damages. I still remember most of the plot. Montag shared an apartment with another fireman and was a bachelor and was not married to Julie Christie living in a house. He walked into the apartment the first time and his roommate was watching the Tokyo Dodgers win the World Series on a flat screen TV in the wall. Montag was under a death sentence at the end and refused to make a deal or agree to a jailbreak by the underground. He had become disillusioned by both sides.Bradbury wrote a 30 page document on the plagiarism. It was estimated 80% was Bradbury's work with 20% Hollywood jacking around like they do with other people's work.

Just like Ghost in the shell (2017), the filmmakers took all subtlety the book had and threw it out the window. The story is so surface level and obvious that it completely ruins the point of the book. Moreover, the story is butchered and hacked up to a point where its no longer recognizable. Clarice's role of opening Guy's eyes is completely offloaded on to Beatty, so when Guy does meet her, it feels out of no where. Also, the movie takes the story of the book and shove it all into the first 40 minutes of the movie, so when they realized they had another hour and ten to fill, they introduce this stupid plot about the "omnis" to pad for time. and finally, they blatantly rip off V for Vendetta with the scenes where Beatty is talking to the ministry. Overall, this movie is just a huge waste of an adaptation. don't really know what i expected though.

The plot absolutely dull from start to finish, nothing to do with the book at all. What a shame...
