If you really want to know, seek out this little obscure sci-fi gem about a ship which begins to malfunction when it gets caught in some sort of gravitational pull. This certain section on the moon called Centrus B 40 is the location for which the Spacecore vessel seems to be heading. Spacecore is a ship with a crew whose job is to fix nuclear armed satellites. As the crew are heading towards the Centrus B 40, they encounter an older model NASA ship which seems to be operational. The malfunctions on the Spacecore have shut down the oxygen so the air is slowly leaving while cold air begins to exceed. This NASA ship just might be a savior for them in disguise. They discover that this ship has air that will provide them with oxygen so the airlock is necessary. Something, however, is on that ship{Discovery 18, to be exact}and it will awaken true terror. They find a dead man on board the Discovery ship named Gotier and there's a triangular hole around his stomach. Soon, the crew will discover what was buried within the Discovery vessel and the film really begins to grow bizarre. Will Bledsoe portrays Giles Stewart, the officer who uncovers unpleasant truths regarding where the Discovery actually comes from, not to mention the dead NASA flight officer. As Giles digs, the Spacecore begins to experience odd occurrences in system malfunctions and something sinister lies within Gotier's body..it will show that no one is safe from a force of evil that can only come from he who is the ultimate symbol of it. This film has a story that might induce laughter or eye-rolling, but if you are willing to give in and understand that this is an entertainment which is highly original and is willing to combine unusual elements into a cohesive whole. It takes several leaps in logic to provide eerie chills and the director is very good at creeping the viewer with those who appear from the dark. What lies within Gotier and how it effects everyone on board the Spacecore, not to mention what mysteries lie within the Discovery builds as the story continues. A good cast helps and the ending is quite a jaw dropper.
... View MoreIt's definitely a b-movie, but one with an original and intriguing idea. Original enough, apparently, to be borrowed by a handful of more well-known sci-fi movies - most notably Event Horizon, which is practically the same movie with a bigger budget (and minus the Bermuda Triangle). It's dark, disturbing and puts an unusual a twist on what initially seems like a standard sci-fi storyline - ship stranded on the dark side of the moon, no power, running out of air, people being mysteriously disemboweled. It's filmed in such a way that the images stick with you long after it's over, especially the ending. Of course you have to suspend your disbelief and ignore the ridiculous hairstyles, but if you like low-budget sci-fi/horror films, it's a lost classic.
... View MoreThis film just goes to prove what can be done without big stars, a huge Hollywood budget and unnecessary CGI effects. A good story, (if a little iffy), relatively good acting and an air of claustrophobic suspense beaten only by 'Alien'. OK, it's cheap and nasty, but look at the budget Star Wars was filmed on! This movie has no delusions of grandeur, it just delivers within it's own limitations. The basic premise is this, the Devil has to collect 666 souls to re-enter or defy Heaven. He's been using the Bermuda Triangle to collect these souls. This being the future a tenuous link is created between the Triangle and the dark side of the Moon. As it turns out, the crew of a space missile repair team would just complete the numbers. After major systems failures the crew encounter a derelict space shuttle, thought lost, (in the Bermuda Triangle), 20 years before. They board it in the hopes of finding vitally needed supplies and instead find a crew member, dead but perfectly preserved, except for a strange, triangle shaped hole in his stomach. Little realising that this mysterious corpse is in fact the manifestation of the Devil come to collect His final souls, they take the body aboard and begin repairs to their own ship. THIS is where the film really begins!! Using their own fears and desires against them, the Devil "body-hops" from one crew member to another, creating an atmosphere of paranoia and distrust, a la The Thing, intent on nothing but collecting His final souls and 'having it out' with The Powers That Be. Granted, the plot has more holes in it than a super-size colander and the effects are on a par with Space:1999, (which still makes it better than Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica!), but this is a fantastic movie which deserves far more attention than it got. I first saw this in the graveyard slot on Sky, between midnight and 6am, back in '92, and I don't think I've even seen it at the very back of a video shelf since, certainly not on any market stalls, which I think is a damn shame for a fine movie sadly overlooked. If you get the chance, WATCH THIS FILM. OK, it's easy to spot what it's mimicking and to make fun of the effects, but this is a darn good way to spend 90 minutes and remember what films where when they weren't just an exercise in computer programmers skill, or lack thereof.
... View MoreI have seen this movie twice and although the actual plot could be deemed as a little far fetched, it really works.Basically, after a systems failure a ship gets trapped upon the darkside of the moon, where all kinds of weird goings on begin to take place as slowly the crew members are picked off one by one by an unseen assailant/assailants.The actual film idea itself is excellent and it really does use darkness in the film for the right reasons and as always, desolate space ships make excellent places for horror to hide round every unlit little corner. Add the fact that there is nowhere to run and the horrible feeling of claustrophobia and you have a gem of a move that is slick, doesn't seem over-produced and has a genius idea of a story running through its core.It is nice to see a film made to scare and not to shock.
