The Canterville Ghost Trailers

When a teenaged girl moves to England, with her brothers and parents into the ancient Canterville Hall, she's not at all happy. Especially as there's a ghost and a mysterious re-appearing bloodstain on the hearth. She campaigns to go back home, and her dad, believing the ghost's pranks are Ginny's, is ready to send her back. But then Ginny actually meets the elusive 17th-century Sir Simon de Canterville (not to mention the cute teenaged duke next door), and she sets her hand to the task of freeing Sir Simon from his curse.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

I like Neve Campbell. She may have disowned it but I loved her in 'Three to Tango' and thought she was great in 'Party of Five'. It was therefore intriguing to see her in this adaptation of the Oscar Wilde short story.Unfortunately despite good performances from Campbell and Patrick Stewart this film looks cheaply put together and has not aged well. It has a grainy quality that is not great. The plotting is slow, and the other performances a bit wooden. It's a shame because this had the potential to be so much better.

I read other peoples comments, and i must say most of what i read was from fans of Patrick Stewart. Patrick Stewart was great as the ghost, and Mrs. Campbell did a really good job as playing the girl who could see The Canterville Ghost. I'm not a BIG fan of Campbell, never did like her much though 'Scream' she was OK in...but anyone in my opinion can play a person who is trying to live and not get killed. I was about 6 or 7 when i saw the movie "The Canterville Ghost", and I saw it with my mum and my sister and we fell in love with it. Not because it has Patrick Stewart (although he does play a very good captain in Star Trek) but because of the story and the atmosphere thats around the story. I am a Star Trek fan but mostly DPSN, we just bought the British version that was sold in England a couple of days ago because we couldn't find it anywhere found a full screen, British Version, Brand New..never opened on eBay lol. There are 2 other people besides Patrick Stewart i like in the movie but i like them because they are in a couple of movies that i love and are my favorite. Raymond Pickard as Washington Otis and Daniel Betts as Francis, Duke of Cheshire. All in all this movie was great and anyone who doesn't think so have some pretty rotten taste.

I first saw this at a sleepover, so I wasn't in the right state of mind, but I've got to say the first thing I noticed was Daniel Betts as the Duke of Cheshire. Once I saw the film again I realised how great it was, and being a HUGE Star Trek fan it was an added bonus to see Patrick Stewart in a different role, loving the Shakesperian accent! I have it on video and never get tired of watching it! Neve Campbell was also very good but the film was made by Francis, why don't Dukes like that really roam around England?! And Leslie Philips as Lord Canterville was an added bonus. .

There is nothing like an Oscar Wilde comedy, and this movie is nothing like a comedy. The melodrama labors from scene to scene and the comedy is completely absent. In the original story, the humor comes from the Americans who are oblivious to the ghostly traditions of Canterville Chase. The American father even offers some oil to the ghost to quiet the creaking chains. Read the book!
