I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
... View Moreif their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
... View MoreThe plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
... View MoreExcellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
... View MoreJacques (Roberto Benigni) is a gendarme in Southern France. He still lives with his mother (Claudia Cardinale) and carries a big secret with him wherever he goes. You see, Jacques is the son of Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellars, now deceased) and he has inherited all of Papa's bumbling expertise. Now, by accident, Jacques crosses paths with Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), and gets entangled with a terrorist group who has kidnapped a lovely Princess of a small Arab country. Quite early, Dreyfus gets injured and Jacques and Mama come calling at the hospital. Even here, Dreyfus is unable to rest as Jacques promptly mixes up the TV remote with the bed elevation buttons. Guess who comes springing out of the sheets? Even so, Dreyfus likes Mama J very much and a romance starts. But, as Jacques gets his bike stuck in the cement and other mishaps, will a Princess indeed be rescued? This sequel is harmless fun, despite missing the essential element, Sellars. Benigni has a different style but he is quite as funny and expressive. Lom is the perfect, exasperated foil to Roberto and the rest of the cast is quite fine. The French scenery is absolutely wonderful while the costumes, script and direction by Edwards have winning qualities. Did you believe there would be no more Clouseau antics after Sellars early demise? With the right substitutes, the Pink Panther keeps on growling, prowling, and turning the tables on the bad elements.
... View MoreIt is nearly 30 years since Inspector Clouseau managed to get Maria Gambrelli cleared of a murder charge, and Maria has gone on and have moved to a seaside town. Princess Yasmin of Lugash has come to the town for a holiday with her father, but she is kidnapped, and because of the strong ties between France and Lugash, Chief Inspector Dreyfus is brought back from the dead to find her. He is hampered by the local police officer Jacques and is amazed when he finds that Jacques is Maria's son. He is terrified even though he and Maria are falling in love that Jacques is Clouseau's son and Jacques is showing similar behaviour. Both Jacques and Dreyfus set out to find the missing Princess...Edwards should have left this franchise alone when Sellers sadly passed away, because every Pink Panther movie made since then, have just been horrible smears on the unique humour he gave us in his performances as Clouseau. And this one has to be the poorest (yes, it's even worse than the one that was full of deleted scenes and David Niven was dubbed). Benigni, so wonderful in Life Is Beautiful, really tries to do something with his character. He is so full of life, so animated, but so desperate to be Sellers, which he shouldn't have tried to channel. So despite his best efforts, he cannot do anything to save it. The plot is terrible, jokes beyond stale, and cast members obviously regretting doing a favour for the once brilliant Blake Edwards. When a comedy is released, and doesn't feature a single laugh, its unfortunate. But when a sequel to one of the defining comedies of the sixties is released and doesn't feature a single laugh, and fails to even give the viewer a smile, its a downright tragedy. It's the poorest comedy sequel ever made, and I've seen Mission To Moscow.
... View MoreDirector Blake Edwards has produced a lot of funny films during his time. His most famous film that comes to mind is The Pink Panther (1963). Ironically enough, Edwards ended his theatrical film career with one of his most disappointing sequels to the pink panther franchise financially and commercially. Thankfully, there are still a few fans that believe Son of the Pink Panther is not a total waste of time. The story continues of the last Pink Panther film where the audience follows the actions of Jacques Gambrelli, a clumsy and light hearted inspector played by the brilliant Roberto Benigni. Unknown to him, Gambrelli has no idea that he is the son of the great detective Jacques Clouseau but he's still just as klutzy like his father. Benigni was an interesting choice for the offspring of Peter Sellers' character. Like most think, Benigni wouldn't make a great follow up. But to put it in perspective, he's actually not as bad as one thinks.Benigni is not a professional at speaking the English language but he at least knows how to do it. His voice is a little choppy and his goofy antics are slightly over the top but doesn't that go well with his gaunt figure and puffy hair? I liked him here. Also starring in his last theatrical film is Herbert Lom as Commissioner Dreyfus. He has some good moments, mostly when he's around Gambrelli. I can't say that any of the comical elements in this film are original but I had some good laughs a lot of the time.Robert Davi plays Hans Zarba, the main villain of a terrorist group. I didn't really care for Davi's character. He doesn't make Zarba anything worth noticing for. Oh well, you can't have everything. Henry Mancini did the final soundtrack for this franchise as well. Nothing sounds out of the ordinary and that's a good thing. Too bad he's not around anymore though. Mancini's a good composer.Even though many people think so, Benigni doesn't disappoint in this movie. Son of the Pink Panther is still goofy and it has a lot of the components from the beginning films that made this franchise a success.
... View MoreNow i am a 15 year old and i just bought this movie a few days ago for a trip. I was think "Son of the Pink Panther," can't be all that good. But i was wrong! WAY WRONG! A BIG FAT WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! This film is great i am not a fan of the first few films (The Pink Panther - Shot In The Dark) they arnt bad just not as funny. But the mid 70s ones are fantastic and now this! It was so funny i am still thinking of that line, "Hurry or they cut off my nipples!' it makes my laugh every time! Yes, Sellers is not in it. Yes it takes place ten years after the last one and yes it has a new guy. But it is good and worthy of a rental and even a buy! Not for the 40 year olds and up but for the teens and into the 20s.
