... View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
... View MoreThe story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
... View MoreI can't begin to describe the full awfulness of this sad, boring, predictable, yet incomprehensible movie. WHY does the bad guy exist? WHY does he want the entire world destroyed by zombies? WHAT exactly does the corporation get out of this wholesale destruction of everything? This movie was so silly, so nonsensical that I'm having trouble giving an accurate review. Just nonstop violence, nonsensical dialogue, a plot that is incapable of being followed. I HATE this movie and I LOVED the first one. This is a waste of time for anyone, even a fan of the franchise. The violence does not come close to making up for the lack of plot or sensible dialogue.
... View MoreI said at the end of the fourth chapter in the 'Resident Evil' series that writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson needed to do something different and fresh with the next two additions. Based on what I saw in 'Resident Evil: Retribution' I think he knew he had to as well, he just didn't know how to do it. This one is the most unique of the first five films, however that doesn't necessarily equate to quality. In fact if anything it ended up making things even more bland than before. The acting in this one was noticeably worse than any other entry in the series. There were some truly horribly delivered lines at times. Milla Jovovich on the other hand continues to be a bright light in the series. She does what she does well. She's likable and pulls of the "badass" tag very well. 'Resident Evil: Retribution' is almost certainly the worst entry in the series to date. This film is living proof that this set of films has outstayed its welcome. If you're not adding something to story each time then why are you continuing to the make the films, other than for money? There is still one more film to go, 'The Final Chapter' which I plan to see this week. I can only hope that the series goes out on a high note, and maybe achieves some originality and freshness. Based on this entry though, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
... View MoreResident Evil, the first one was the best and till 4 it was still OK to watch, just watch. BUT Retribution was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life! Really, I normally don't critic any movie but this was pure bull manure! No story, no plot, nothing totally NOTHING, just gun shooting in pure nothingness! This was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life and I love Resident Evil from game to movie!! Really sorry! But WOW! Never thought this would be like that! They could have made anything after RE 4 but this... there are really no words to explain how bad all of this movie is! Capcom, you should sue the director because he and the whole crew have destroyed the whole name of Resident Evil, destroyed everything in the name of Resident Evil and Umbrella corp. THIS WAS PURE AWFULNESS!!! Can't believe people gave it even a 5 or 6 in stars! This was totally -10 not 1. INCREDIBLE!
... View MoreResident Evil: Retribution (2012): Dir: Paul W.S. Anderson / Cast: Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Li Bingbing, Shawn Roberts: The fifth and unfortunately not the final showcase of this sh*t box franchise. Its subtitle regards the mending of losses although the ending pretty much sidelines any hope of that. It is just another excuse for mindless violence with people getting mauled by zombie or demonic type creatures. Milla Jovovich is a symbol of hope and is a real trooper to go through the routine again. She looks great in her skin tight black sex suit where she pulls out revolvers and large knives. She is still fighting that pesky Umbrella Corporation and the hit is out on Miss Milla who can scrap with the best of them. In fact, we have lots of feisty females in this gem. Michelle Rodriguez growls and spits bullets out her finger tips. Then she beats the tar out of two guys who just don't know when to quit. Sienna Guillory is under some sort of trance and is helping the Umbrella crew and the laughable Red Queen. She will engage in a nifty fist fight with Jovovich in the ice cold. Then we have Li Bingbing as a contact who helps Jovovich until she gets her ass caught. With the exception of Jovovich, these characters are airheads with no intention of doing anything remotely intelligent. The special effects are great with its reds and whites, and director Paul W.S. Anderson delivers an effective slow motion action opener, but his Three Musketeers is far more fun. So, the subtitle lies. There is no real retribution. Not even for the audience who must suffer through this and another bloody geek show. Score: 3 ½ / 10
