The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

The film begins with Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) mourning his wife Tina (Rani Mukerji). Tina has left letters for her daughter, Anjali (Sana Saeed), the last of which tells the story of how Tina accidentally came in between Rahul and his college best friend, also named Anjali, and asks young Anjali to try to find the adult Anjali (Kajol) and bring her and Rahul together. When they meet again, Anjali and Rahul have immediate attraction, but Anjali is already engaged to Aman (Salman Khan). The plot of this sweet film is enjoyable, if predictable, and while the musical numbers weren't exceptional, they were still good. The story is divided into two parts: college life and adult life. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol do a wonderful job playing both college students and mature adults. Kajol's emotional acting was also good. Sana Saeed, in her first role, was the life of the movie, though. Overall, while I don't see why it has become a classic, it is an example of Bollywood at it's best.

This is a fun movie. It was especially fun since I hadn't seen it in over ten years, remembering the outcome, but not all the details.Shahrukh Khan stars as Rahul, and it opens with his wife, Tina (played by Rani Mukerji) giving birth to their daughter and dying of complications, and her last wish that their daughter be named Anjali. It's a bit melodramatic, and maybe not very believable, but they need it for the story…Jump ahead eight years to Anjali's 8th birthday, in which she receives the 8th and last annual letter from her deceased mother. This letter describes how she and Rahul met in college, and about Rahul's best friend… Anjali…It tells how Tina feels she came between Rahul and Anjali, and sends their daughter, Anjali, on a mission to find her namesake and get the best friends back in love again…Shahrukh and Kajol, as Anjali, weren't very convincing as college students, they looked too grown up, yet acted too immature. Kajol was much more convincing as the tomboy trying to become more feminine once the third part of the love triangle came into the story…The music in it is good, great songs to listen to outside the movie, but the dancing to them in the movie was kind of dull, uninspired and the costumes during them were fairly bland. Still, overall, it's a great Bollywood movie. Unlike most it focuses more on the love story, with a bit of comedy thrown in, without trying to mix-n-match bad action and violence. Definitely recommended!

Actually I only saw this movie cause there was nothing else to watch, but hey I really liked it. Its so silly and colorfull that when you feel bad before you gonna feel good afterwards. Listening to the Hindi language and the Indish English accent just sounds great. The acting is good fitting fine with the movies story. Its about a friendship between a guy and girl which breaks after another girl comes up in Highschool. The guy and the new girl fall in love with each other and get married, the other girl leaves cause she is in love with the guy and cant take not getting him. After the wife dies, the daughter gets a letter from her (written before the mother died) that she is supposed to find that girl again. The father and her are supposed to get married cause this is the way it was supposed to be.
