Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

'Before Sunrise (1995)' essentially has no plot and, though that's the point as the intention is to be a romance with all the extraneous 'Hollywood' elements removed, this leads to an experience that feels loose, aimless and meandering. It's experimental and laid-back by design but isn't the most gripping of narrative pieces because of it. It certainly feels less a character-study of its two leads and more a vehicle for Linklater, Krizan, Delpy and Hawke (the latter two of whom contributed heavily to the script uncredited) to express some of their most unique of ideas. These come constantly, seeming like stories they've told to friends or theories they have about life, love and religion, and, while they can be interesting (genuinely thought-provoking in cases), they don't really develop the characters and seem sort of out of place within the story. It's difficult to explain why most of that stuff doesn't seem to work, but it just doesn't feel fully genuine in most cases. It doesn't feel like it comes from the characters or express their budding romance, though this sort of talk certainly forms the basis for most relationships. Still, it isn't all unsuccessful. There is certainly some charm to the picture, once it picks up steam. In the end, the experiment seems to have worked. It was creatively refreshing for all involved and evokes memories of wandering around a holiday desination talking about nothing for hours. There's even some impressive long takes and the 'unscripted' feel is admirable considering it was all scripted down to the letter. This all leads to a sort of inane, carefree and somewhat nostalgic - if limited - enjoyment of a hundred-minute conversation told with cinematic language. 6/10

The dialogue of this movie is a very touching and important part. It really moved me. I mean, I can kiss more than a few person, I can have sex with more than a few person, but, for things deep down in my heart, I can only talk with the person who truly know me, who I believe, who I really love. And the two main characters are really pouring their heart out to each other. That is real love, the person who wrote the script has surely done a great job. There are many romantic films, this one is different, because this one feels real. Most of the romantic films focus on passion, which is totally different from love, in my personal opinion. The reason why I give this film a 10 star vote is partially my personal experience. This movie does remind me of myself 4 years ago. When I was in love with her, just like the two main characters. Everything in this movie feels so similar! The happiness, the romance, they are just what I want and what I have had! At some point I even thought this is a movie about myself, because our such similar experience. We split up about two years ago, for some reason. So, very reasonably, after 2 years, I cried again, loudly. I thought 2 years is a period of time which is long enough for me to forget her, and my desire for love and happiness. And, thanks to my rotten life, I did forget her, because I was to busy taking drugs(I mean legal drugs, like alcohol or something), and I thought I've forgotten the desire for love and happiness too, until I see this series of films. I suddenly realized that I've been lying to myself for 2 years, the truth is that I always want love and happiness, It is truth before, it is truth now, and it probably will be. What I all had been doing was using alcohol and excitement it brings to me to keep myself numb, to escape from the truth. I thought these little tricks would made me feel better, but NO! It only made me more angry, more exhausted and more miserable. I should have been there to meet her at seaside that morning, instead of being so drunk that I can't wake up and step out of my home! Hope I will see her again. This movie did wake me up, and that's a great help.Excuse me for my bad English.

Before Sunrise follows a young man and woman who meet on a train and realize how good their chemistry is, so they decide to hang out for the rest of the night. As per usual, Ethan Hawke kills it. While I wouldn't call this his best performance, he's still fantastic. And same goes for Julie Delpy. She does a great job, and the two play off of each other so well. It's a relationship that was actually authentic. I bought the idea that these two people were this compatible and could form a relationship. The writing is fantastic. Partly the reason why these characters are so authentic and fleshed out is because they are both given personalities portrayed by amazing writing. Their characters are thought out and well developed by the end. Another thing that came as a surprise was the directing. There were a handful of shots that went on for several minutes, during which the characters just talked. They had a huge chunk of lines to memorize and they had to play these particular characters for the entire time, again proving how great the actors are. Sure, there was probably a lot of improvisation, but even then it's still impressive that they managed to stay in character that long. If I have but one problem with the movie it's that it could drag from time to time. Considering the movie is made up completely of conversations between two people over the course of several hours. It's not exactly exciting or riveting in plot, it's relaxed. And sometimes I felt like that too, maybe a little too much. Overall Before Sunrise is a very well-acted, written, and directed film that suffers from being a tad slow. While it isn't a movie I can see myself watching again anytime soon, I absolutely enjoyed it, and in the end I would recommend it.

Richard Linklater loves the little things, the smile of a passerby, the glint of sunset on a window, a half-heard deep conversation, a free bottle of wine. He avoids 'movie magic' - things that make us swoon and weep in the cinema but don't really appear in real life. His movies are grounded in reality, the here and now, and he shows us that there is magic here, too, not just on the big screen.'Before Sunrise' has no special effects, no action, no comic relief characters, no astonishing coincidences. What it does have is two people and their engaging conversation and the bond that develops between them. We get to witness love springing forth. There are skeptics who say that the movie is unrealistic, that there is no love at first sight. But then there are those who know that yes, there is love at first sight, that fact is stranger than fiction and more beautiful, and this movie is an accurate description of one such event, an event that seems so spontaneous and believable that it might as well be real. The first part of an extremely ambitious trilogy, 'Before Sunrise' shows us the wonders of young love. Later installments add depth of emotion, but this one is perfect on its own as a representation of that joyful and painful feeling.
