Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' has bits of many films, most notably 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in the main idea of two friends who are in love with each other without being aware of their own feelings. But despite that, there was something extremely awakening and refreshing in this film. Today's generation's youth was brilliantly portrayed, and the film's biggest strength was its striking simplicity and everyday reality. The simple characters, the simple dialogue, along with the natural acting, the brilliant soundtrack by A.R Rahman, and the depiction of modern-day India made for a very fine and enjoyable movie. The film does not only work because of its romantic nature, but also its striking portrayal of relationships, whether it's the one between Jai and Aditi, between Aditi and her brother, and particularly between Jai and his mother. Tyrewala skillfully captures the camaraderie of the group of friends, who are always there for each other. A.R.R brilliantly composes a soundtrack that effectively suits the film's youthful and rather melancholic mood. The songs are totally in sync with the situations and among the many good numbers, my favourite would be the title track, "Kabhi Kabhi Aditi". The background score is also quite good, with some nice tunes enhancing the narrative and the partly joyful, partly melancholic atmosphere of the film.Imran Khan makes a very good debut. The guy is simple and acts quite naturally. Genelia just has the right amount of spunk and vivacity to suit the part, and although in some portions she is a bit unnatural, she grows on you as the film goes by. It might well be because the film itself catches your interest so much that at some point nothing else matters. Ratna Pathak is excellent as the caring and loving mother. Prateik Babbar does very well, and Manjari Fadnis does her part exceedingly well. Naseeruddin Shah does a fantastic cameo, as always never fearing the possibility of ridiculing himself. Paresh Rawal is as witty and funny as always.Abbas Tyrewala's direction is fantastic and there is an impressive sensibility in the way he chooses to carry the narrative forward. The film is fast paced. Jaane Tu is not devoid of clichés. Towards the end it's far more evident because it gets dramatised, but then, Tyrewala gives it a nice touch of humour, effectively summing up this feature. JTYJN is a refreshing youthful film and it's really fun to watch. The story is nothing new, but it's injected with energy, realism and humour to create an entertaining picture that is worth revisiting.

Welcome to that magical Bombay city, where everybody is rich and can afford magnificent houses with lawns (not flats), where even a son of a widowed mother (vidhava maa ka eklauta beta - Naseer Hussain special) can afford to go to a night club, where horses and carriages roam freely on streets, where characters hangout in suburb but go to a night club in downtown, where the roads are deserted at night and hero has the courage to escort the heroine at midnight near the deserted library (near Fort), where being artist means growing a beard, wearing an earring and uttering absurd dialogues, where the security at international airport is so lax that anybody can run to the departure gate and sing a song without getting shot, where the characters do not have to worry about finding a job after they graduate. The only upset one can face in life is a break-up from love one.Nasir Hussain movies are always about escapist entertainment and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is no different. In 60s, it was Asha Parekh and Joy Mukherjee dancing to OP Naiyyar music in hill stations, now you have Imraan Khan and Genelia dancing to ARR's music in Bombay. The director has tried hard to add glitz and glamour and modern day touch to an age old story, but the soul remains the same. There is nothing new in the story. Girl and boy are already together. By the time they realise that they are in love, it is too late. So the chase begins..Considering the fact that Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan are credited as producers of this movie, it is disappointing to see them following a time-tested safe formula. Music by A R Rehman is top notch, but the songs are ill-placed in the movie and tend to hamper the flow of story. The only saving grace comes in form of Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak, although I was never able to figure out the Ratna Pathak's exact occupation - is she a social worker? A human right activist? A lawyer?A 6.5/10 - just for the music, pretty faces and the polished look of the movie.

Well, we now have a new Khan kid on the block. For Imran Khan who made a significant departure from the muscled and dancing boys making macho entries these days, this romantic flick seemed tailor made for him. This surely has an uncanny resemble to his Uncle Aamir’s strategy where he went around with the ‘chocolate hero’ image till he established himself in serious roles. But, was the movie really so worthwhile?Jaane Tu is about complementary personalities Jai (Imran) and Aditi (Genelia) who share an inseparable bond which they believe is nothing more than friendship. Their group of friends Rotlu, Jignesh a.k.a. Jiggy, Sandhya a.k.a. Bombs and Shaleen know for sure that the lead duo are in love, so do Aditi’s parents and Jai’s mother. Bugged by constant prodding of others, the duo decides to look for an ideal partner each other. With the college getting over, and the pappu dance song through, the friends seem to be having a nice time going places. At on such club, Jai saves Meghana (Manjari Phadnis) from being stalked and cupid strikes them. As Jai gets closer to Meghana, Aditi feels left out. As time passes, Aditi gets engaged to a family friend, a macho man she always wanted, who was unlike the mild mannered Jai who always opts to be non-violent.With the passage of events, Aditi senses a mismatch with mean ways of Sushant and realizes that she actually loves Jai. Aditi’s weird artistic brother Amit (Prateek Babbar) too pitches for Jai. Unfortunately the realization comes late for Jai, only after realizing that Meghana’s sweet ways; her penchant for seeing the world goody-goody and her hyper-imaginative ‘what’s this?’ game is actually defense for her personal melodrama. What follows next is typical Bollywood drama. A simple story here gets adulterated by being set in a not so well scripted storytelling between friends at the Airport, a climax that downright brainless. The funny sequences involving three challenges of Rathods and Sohail-Arbaaz Khan stuff sucks. The short role of Naseeruddin Shah talking through a picture entertains though. Paresh Rawal, in his poorly scripted role is wasted. If not for these bloopers that prevent this from becoming an all time memorable flick, it still scores points for being a cute, fresh film. While Imran is not just handsome but did a good job, lively Genelia is refreshing. Ratna Pathak Shah, of small screen fame did a good job as Jai’s mother. Rehman’s music is decent, but nothing new. To sum up, like uncle, like nephew, this is Imran’s ‘papa-kehte-hain’ style entry. Way to go Imran!

Obviously after seeing hundreds of films (and reviewing over 150), i should be knowing a lot about movies, not the technical factors but simple things like originality, entertainment, music etc etc.But do i??!!! Expert No 1 - This is a fresh (original) film.Me- Is it ?? 6 friends 3 girls 3 guys 2 that are seeing each other 2 that are confused and 2 that are asexual (has anyone seen friends?), 2 people that love each other but don't know yet (lets not even talk about how FRESH THAT IS).Pleasing as watching end of college romantic comedies may be (hell even one of the American pies was one), ITS AS OLD AS MOVIES ITSELF.Expert No 2 - Mature and Subtle Portrayal of relationships and people.Me - Did we see the same movie. A villain whos probably as evil as gabbar given the context of the film. The other girl who had to be dumped. A talking portrait, EXTRA CHILL PARENTS (i wish each and every parent was really that chill in real life). This movie did have some special moments though, but most were anything but subtle, like the Khan Brothers, meeting the parents etc etc.Expert No 3 - All the actors did a superb job.Me- Did they Genelia still has difficulty in handling emotional scenes, and her dubbing/voice is at least 5 movies away from being even good, Imran Khan was actually quite good, but as the joker says "WHY SO SERIOUS", even in the comedy scenes there was an air of aloofness or seriousness about it, as if to say im here to do a serious job, and if the scene require comedy then i will processionally handle it.ALSO WHAT NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE POINTED OUT IS THE SLOWISH PACE OF THE FILM, really there is only one story in the entire film and for that movie is quite long, its not like alternate tracks have been given much importance. The placement of songs and the fact that we feel compelled to play the whole song once we start it, is still annoying.ON MOST OF THE REST I AGREE WITH.Yes the acting is very good but lets not push it to superb.Yes the movie is funny most of the times when it wants to be.Yes some of the emotional scenes are actually tolerable for a drama hater like me.Yes this is one of the best movies this year (more from the lack of good movies i might add).Yes you must watch this movie (hell if you like movies (especially Hindi) what other choices do you have, and you will enjoy yourself). In all a very good if not great movie that should be watched if you like some good fun with the odd emotional moments.-s sluggish pace, bad use of songs, not fresh or original.+/-s acting superb???? maybe maybe not.+s mostly fun, concept still appeals after all this time, Genelia looks really nice (acting has nothing to do with the fact that i have semi- crush on her).total 7/10 (this movie actually met my expectations but im not factoring that so that others expectations are not to high, this movie once again gos to prove that if enough people tell you that a movie is superb you will believe it, QUITE FRANKLY I ENJOYED JAB WE MET MORE).BUT HELL, WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW??.
