Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

If I had to summarize Wake up, Sid in one line I would say it's Simplicity at its best! It's simple, and yet so beautifully written. I just loved the movie. Well, it's something like love at first sight. There are no logical reasons; you love it because you love it, no questions asked. The simplicity of story, devoid of any big filmy dialogues and mushy mushy love, the ordinary, mundane dresses and style helps you relate to the characters and the movie as a whole. All this combined with some decent acting, situational songs and impressive background score is what makes the film worth watching.

I recently got an opportunity to watch this movie on a DVD and I was not disappointed. This movie connects with you immediately because of its very realistic script and could relate to the movie immediately. Ayan Mukherjee's effort in movie making is worth mentioning, He has a very simplistic yet unique way of story telling and helps us connect to the characters within a flash. His the Dil Chahta hai esque style of movie making fascinates! The cast is very well chosen as they suit the bill perfectly. Ranbir has done a great job depicting Sid. But you come out of the movie with Konkana playing with your mind. She is very refreshing and yet again proves she is one of the finest actors in India. Supriya Pathak plays her part to perfection. The music of the movie is worth mentioning.Iktara is the song you'd be humming for the next couple of days! Don't miss it ! Worth having a DVD watch!

Nowadays every second movie is touted as a "Breath of fresh air" movie. So much so that i have started hating this word.Well it seems that there is a real shortage of subjects in our cinema. The remakes and "inspiring" mindset need to be changed.Literacy rate has grown up and so has the mindset of the people in varied fields including cinema. You can't deceit them by showing same content in different ways.In this crises comes out a movie WAKE UP SID which keeps my faith a bit alive. It brings something refreshing to word "fresh air".I watched it twice and loved the honesty of the attempt.I just got lost in the world of Sid.The screenplay was good ,music soulful ,screenplay was quite predictable albeit.Ranbir Kapoor is superb as Arrogant to Sober SID and made me think that he could have only done justice to it.He is honing his skills with each passing movie.Direction also to say the least commendable.Well as a cinema lover i would love to see more audacious and experimental cinema in coming years.

Really good movie, it is not the same ghisi-piti story that typically comes out of Bollywood. Most of the movie is great except for the start and end. Too much time is spend at the start to show Sid as an ultra irresponsible slacker, a child really. Then Aisha enter his life, as a friend. I thought Konkana did not fit Aisha, someone younger but still emotionally mature would have been a better fit, Deepika or Kangana would have worked much better. Konkana is a good actress, no doubt about that, but Ranbir-Konkana did not make a good pair, hardly any chemistry. Most of the story is predictable, but the screenplay is really well done and the direction is almost flawless. Ranbir is believable as Sid; though is probably much older, with his baby face he is able to pull it off. He is setting himself up to be typecast as a lover boy.The middle of the movie is where the entire team excels. Acting by Sid and his parents is top notch. The scene where he is taking pictures of his neighbor and their son is probably the best scene in the movie. So much is said and understood without any words. But the end is quite synthetic and artificial. I think the movie would have worked better if Konkana had just moved on from Kabir without the whole love angle with Sid. I felt too contrived; it would make more sense to have Aisha move on from Kabir and Sid continuing on with his friends with passion for his work and goals in life.
