One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

Ten minutes into the film, you have the thing figured out. Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) move into a nice home which they got a good deal on because the neighboring house had a double homicide. The daughter killed both her parents. They never found the daughter, but the son who was away at the time now lives in the home. At this point I lead a collective groan in the movie theater.Perennial teen Jennifer Lawrence, who apparently got hungry in between "Hunger Games" consented to play the ever helpful high school teen rock band singer. Mom works at a hospital and is over protective of Jennifer's movie virginity. This was a fair "B" movie mystery thriller. The script was good, but wasn't that great. Having someone the caliber of Jennifer Lawrence star in it, didn't add anything to the feature other than a box office attraction. Her fans will surely overrate this film. Let's not kid ourselves it is 3 1/2 stars even with Miss Lawrence. Predictable with a good head fake. Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity. Some immature teen swearing.

I really enjoyed this movie. I also did not predict this movie at all. I can normally predict a movie and say, "yep, this is going to happen" but with this movie what I thought wasn't correct and hence why it was a great movie. Obviously if you read the spoilers, you won't be shocked and it will take away from this movie. I won't give any spoilers, but it is definitely worth watching.I gave it a 8 because it lacked character development and it is never really explains why the town people really hate Ryan, considering he moved away when he was 7 and returned only after his parents were murdered by his sister.

I disliked this film after the first twenty minutes. My wife hung in there and then began hating it around the one hour mark, just as things started to get really stupid and annoying. I have no idea who this film was aimed that, but I'm guessing it might be folks that have never watched a slasher film before. Jennifer Lawrence (who still manages to be likable throughout) is some songwriter moving from Chicago with her mother to some rural place, next to a creepy murder house. You know the drill. There's someone living there, the neighbours hate him, Jen sees the good in him (not hard after one of the neighbours tries to rape her) blah blah it's twilight only with feckin Norman Bates instead of that Easter Island statue faced guy and the other guy with the six inch wide nose. So. I can't see any teenager being interested in this. Sure, it's full of all that misunderstood teenager meeting the one who understands them pish (rather than the misunderstood teenager coping by smoking loads of dope and necking acid and eckies pish we had back in the nineties), but 98% percent of this film is made up of arseholes so why make it in the first place.Plus, the ending has so many moments where people do something stupid you'd that something something something who cares. It's kind of like Sleepaway Camp, but not really at all because that was a good film. This isn't.

I'm not really a fan of horror films but I watched this anyway as I was round a friends house. I was pleased to find out that in the end it was more of a mystery/thriller rather than a horror. There was only really one scene that made me jump and that wasn't so bad. It's quite an atmospheric film with good suspense build up music throughout. The acting was OK overall, Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot were both very good though. They had pretty good chemistry at the beginning and also done the more shocking scenes quite well. There are some pretty grim scenes but nothing too graphic, its mostly just atmospheric with a good twist towards the end. Nothing original but it was a decent enough movie to watch.7/10.
