It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

I think this was a good horror. It was well done and the main characters were fleshed out properly. You were under the impression they were regular people, just like your neighbors. The protagonist is a twenty something year old photographer who still lives with his mom. Unlike his brother, he is far from assertive because he has lived all his life with the nickname "Elephant Man" on account of his very visible and disfiguring birthmark. His life seems uneventful until a gang attacks him and his mom and kills her. Then an hour or so of great horror follows, and lasts almost until the end. But, I think in the last 20 minutes or so, the screenwriter (or the studio) chickened out. So, they started to inject ambiguity in the story. Ambiguity is not bad in itself, but in horror, it might kill an otherwise great movie. And they picked the worst kind of ambiguity. The one that says: "well, it was mostly in his head. See? London is still there." Great horror doesn't take prisoners. Well, it did have a horror ending, but not the kind with death and despair, but the kind with a little personal redemption.

I don't mind a film where the ending is left open for interpretation or ambiguity causes an internal dialog and we need to delve deeper in the movie for answers.I felt that Heartless was too weak here. There were many variables and unexplained characters and motives. What was the little girl? I have 3-4 opinions on who she was, but those are just too many to keep the movie flowing.I've just read through other's opinions and reviews. I would love to hear the definitive answer so I could better judge this movie.Acting was good with Sturgess being able to carry well. I liked the setting and mood.Worth viewing but you have more questions than answers.

Philip Ridley is primarily a play write, and this is without doubt presented in Heartless. You can almost see in every moment of dialogue the preachy speeches, the moral values defended by Nikita Mistry's character - Belle, almost acting like a chorus. I liked this, but it grew tiresome for me because I like reality within film. For those who don't know, this is briefly based around Marlow's Doctor Faustus, or the German Faust folklore. It is the idea of a polymath, a renaissance all rounder who wants to transcend earthly limitations by selling is soul to Lucifer for 24 years of a life of necromancy. Visually, considering the budget, it's a masterpiece that I admire for being bold and exceeding my expectations, however, it was hard to see past this considering the 'hit and miss' aspect of the story. I'm almost at a loss for words so I can only call it 'corny.' It tries to be a horror, yet there is an underlining dreadful moral aspect that would be okay, but it's far too forward, and far too off putting to enjoy. My main criticism is the pace of the story, paired with the severe lack of ability to empathise or sympathise with the lead character, or any of the other characters. Yes, it's meant to represent the downfall of a man, brought upon by himself, but who is to say we can't admire the character, enjoy the road they take us on, and enjoy their ability to realise their wrong doings. I respect that some people did enjoy it, some didn't, because it truly shows the diversity of the audience and how some people can see what is meant to be seen, and some can't, almost like a reflection of the main character, he see's what he wants to see.

I am sorry, but I just have to say that this movie was really bad!I mean, there was nothing, nothing at all that could be counted as a counter part. First of all the script - bad! confusing, in a wrong way. The main idea, if there is one, is lost somewhere way behind the lines. So called plot twists were not convincing at all, many have done this before and much, much better than this pathetic attempt. Some scenes where so "made", so unreal and sometimes even hilarious. At some point I thought to my self - are they kidding? In conclusion waste of time and nerves. I hate rewind button, but I would like to use it in this case :D
