not as good as all the hype
... View MoreIt's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
... View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
... View MoreThere's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
... View MoreIf you are here, then you already know the movie you're watching is not Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Within 5 weeks, three movies titled Hansel and Gretel were released, presumably to piggyback off of the success of the 50 billion U.S dollar Hansel and Gretel. I'm assuming (judging by other reviewers) that everyone watched this thinking they were seeing the big Hollywood blockbuster that was heavily marketed. Hence: the hatred. This is an Asylum movie. It isn't their best but definitely not their worst either. The performances and effects are decent as far as Asylum movies go. The storyline is good and there's definitely enough tension to keep you looking at the screen till the end credits. In short: if you like Asylum movies (low budget cheesy horror, mostly) you will absolutely love this one. If you're thinking this movie is the big blockbuster Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters then you will be extremely displeased.
... View MoreSet in modern times, say 2013, in a small town in the USA. Hansel and Gretel are brother and sister. Their mother has passed away. Their father is thinking of marrying Ruby, who is three years older than Gretel, selling the house, then moving somewhere else. Hansel, an irresponsible video gamer, runs off and puts his leg in a bear trap. Oi. They see a cabin, which turns out to belong to Lilith, who operates the local general store. Lilith's specialty is a meat pie. When the siblings go to Lilith's house, she feeds Hansel a beef stew that he really likes.Hansel and Gretel stay overnight. Lilith tells Gretel that a neighbor took Hansel to the hospital while Gretel was sleeping. In the meantime, Hansel wakes up in a prison with Jane, Kevin, and Dana. There used to be more in the cell, but they are gone now. They have plenty to eat, all of it cookies, doughnuts, and candies. Kevin informs them that they are being fattened up to be used as meat. They take Dana.Lilith tries to convince Gretel to be her heir, or at least one of the 'family,' such as it is. Gretel resists. Lilith has her dumped in the prison cell. They take Jane, but not before Jane steals a pointy object that she passes to Hansel. He uses it to unlock their shackles and the cell door. Kevin makes a break for freedom; Hansel and Gretel try to rescue Jane. Ruby and the local police look for them, though quite ineffectively.Do any of them escape? Does justice catch up to Lilith?------Scores-------Cinematography: 7/10 Much of the movie looked fine, but some of the dark sections were ridiculously poorly done.Sound: 6/10 The conversation is a close to muted all too often.Acting: 2/10 Dee Wallace was fine, but the rest of the cast was terrible.Screenplay: 0/10 The story made no particular sense. None of the characters were interesting, and I found no reason to care about any of them.
... View MoreI'm surprised at how many people gave this film a 1/10 because they thought it was a different film. That's like saying Shawshank Redemption is a horrible film because for some reason I thought I was renting The Godfather. The first 50 minutes of the film was your typical B-grade horror film. At that point probably was a 4/10, but could go between 2 and 6 based on ending. Then for like 20-25 minutes it went stupid weird. There was some OK stuff near end.Nothing spectacular, nothing horrible and I would love to see some make a better film for $500.
... View MoreWhat a waste of an hour and a half of my life! I'm not sure what's worse: the script, the direction, or the editing! The story jumps about as if there are bits missing from it, and there are dozens of plot-holes and so many "that would never happen in real life" incidents that the film becomes painful to watch. I couldn't even bear to watch it in one go, I had to turn it off after less than an hour and then I watched the rest later on. I only got this film/movie by mistake because I actually wanted to see a different film with a very similar title, but this film looks and feels like it was made by a group of high school students, not a team of professional film makers!
