Truly Dreadful Film

... View MoreA high school massacre takes place after the tragic death of a female track runner. Yeah, not the most interesting premise, but it could've turned out well if there was any effort put into it. What does this movie do wrong you may wonder, what doesn't it do wrong? What doesn't this movie do at all? I'll tell you, build tension or develop it characters. Yeah, who needs people you can care about, whether they die or not? Oh yeah, I guess that's all we wanna watch them do, die. The only character with, I guess, the most development is the deceased girl's older sister, who's name isn't that important enough to remember; honestly though, she is not the least bit interesting. With all that said, this is not the worst horror film ever, but I would definitely call it the worst slasher film of all time.
... View MoreI actually liked it more than most people did, judging by the rating. One of the first things I noticed was the presence of Christopher George who was in one of my favourite slashers called Pieces. But here he is not that good and the movie overall is not highly interesting. There is some minimal nudity, frankly I don't remember any memorable ones anyway. They should have amped up the nudity, at least that should have increased the rating somewhat. Some interesting violent scenes though especially a murder by spikes! There are definitely some atmospheric scenes which did work I admit. Especially the locker room scene. But they are few and far between to actually make a big impact. The ending is highly disappointing. Apparently it is a big twist but it is pretty much what everybody would predict anyway. And it is also ripping of some better horror films as well.Overall, I am not satisfied but some high points for some atmospheric scenes.5/10
... View MoreLet's face it, GRADUATION DAY was never going to win any film-making awards. It's a low budget slice of sleazy trash, rushed out on the cheap to cater for the audience's new-found appetite for horror in the wake of HALLOWEEN and Friday THE 13TH. The plot is threadbare, the editing is slightly dodgy, and most of the cast give performances so wooden that you'd think you were down the local forest. And yet, and yet...GRADUATION DAY has a certain charm all of its own. The high school setting is a fun one, and the various HALLOWEEN-inspired stalk 'n' slash sequences are a hoot. The cheesy gore effects are equally great fun, and then there's the presence of the hammily entertaining Christopher George (THE EXTERMINATOR) as the coach, George Michaels (yes, really). A dodgy musical interlude goes on FOREVER, and of course it wouldn't be a slasher film without the twist endings.Director Herb Freed seems intent on making his film as sleazy as possible given the constraints of the day; his camera lovingly lingers on his actresses (including a young Linnea Quigley) as they strip off and inevitably find themselves murdered soon afterwards. Playing "guess the killer" is part of the fun. It might be cheap, shoddy and occasionally distasteful, but is GRADUATION DAY fun? The answer is a resounding yes!
... View MoreI'm pretty surprised at the low rating this flick has gotten on IMDb, as this is one seriously enjoyable slasher. "Graduation Day", distributed by the notorious "Troma Team" sub-label is fairly standard in plot, but the delivery is awesome.A girl collapses while running track and dies, sending her sister home from the military to try and find out more as she suspects foul play. There are a TON of red herrings here, most of them being more outrageous than the next. The gore is plentiful, and the kills inventive and numerous. I mean seriously, who doesn't like seeing someone get impaled by a fencing foil? This film is loaded with cheese, whether it be the extended musical scenes, or the over the top acting of just about everyone. The flash cuts/edits are actually pretty unique and add a bit of flair, and as I briefly mentioned above, the gore is actually pretty good, with blood spilling out of many, many mouths through the slayings. There is seriously not much to complain about here, and anyone who is a slasher junkie will eat this one up like it's Oxycodone
