This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Deja vu the concept does you in because it doesn't answer to you but instead beckons and then has its own rules. You know that feeling one gets where they have some familiarity about a situation or person? We shrug it off or take note that it is beyond our understanding to process thus we call it Deja vu alluding to the supernatural. That's really all we can do however in this movie, they go beyond that. A plot twist and hook that never misses is the concept of time travel. It plays very nicely with your head and when being discussed, there are no wrong answers only one mystery after another, plenty of aha moments together with how can that be? This movie and its characters captures that quite well. Good intensity levels here and I was impressed with the directing and explosions which become integral to the plot. After scratching your head a few times afterwards and of course discussing this with someone else, one has to wonder what happened after the movie ends and who really knows what happened within the movie. A sequel wouldn't have hurt at all and as we all know, many time travel-movies proved a success if they respected the concept. This movie did. As usual, Denzel is a delight to watch as is Val Kilmer. Popcorn would compliment this movie along with a tasty drink. If you decide to eat, try a hamburger and fries as one of the characters really chomps down on one making you wish for one. Why wish? Get one! Enjoy with a friend so as to share the many scenarios that flood the mind all pleasurable I might add. Deja vu waits for you!

This movie makes absolutely zero sense. If the intention was to amaze the viewer with some Big Science, the makers utterly failed. Instead, you have several moments in the movie that just befuddle you. Don't get me wrong. I'm all in for concepts that push the boundaries of human experience, but this movie is not what you're looking for if you're looking for anything exciting. They have thrown in a jumble of ideas hoping it would work out all on its own.How can someone just vanish in and out of existence the way the hero does? Why is this supposedly Sherlock Holmes-like character that can imagine everything from a mere speck of dust not have the common sense to call the other cops when he is chasing the dreaded terrorist so he can prevent this awful terrorist attack? And the scene where we are supposed to feel sad for the hero dying is also ridiculous. This guy that can take in bullets everywhere and not as much as limp doesn't know his way out of a car? That's just lazy writing and an insult to the viewer's already numbed sense of intelligence.Good visuals and technology do not a good movie make. And this is another example of it. Sorely disappointed. 2 out of 10 just for the concept.

The storyline makes absolutely no sense at all. Even if you are willing to accept the whole time-hole nonsense and overlook the obvious mistakes, the choices the characters make are ludicrous and unbelievable. How can this movie score 7 out of 10? Or do the viewers just don't care anymore about a story, just as long as there's enough car chases and things blowing up?They are able to transfer a note. Why not transfer a second note? Why doesn't he call the police ones he is back in time? How did they manage to time-travel him into a hospital? Why doesn't he mind causing car-accidents every time he steps into a car... And there's a question like that every 5 minutes. The acting is fine, but this movie is not for people that like logic.

Déjà Vu. A film directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington. A 99% chance right there that this film would be an enjoyable even if you had never seen any trailers for it, and it was, just like the other films the two had worked together on before, from Man On Fire to Crimson Tide. It was one of those combinations that just seemed to work every time.Unlike the previous films, however, this time Science Fiction is brought into the equation with the topics of parallel universes and time travel being major parts of the story. Right there should tell you that it's a film that needs to be paid attention to, and if you don't you'll be lost as soon as the story starts to kick in with the whole time travel aspect. Now, I've seen movies that deal with the time travel theory and they can be very hit and miss because some of them try to be too clever for their own good. They become over-complicated and you end up just losing interest. Others, though, are enjoyable and while they do get complicated, they don't over-do it.Déjà Vu is one I'd include in the latter category. The overall story is an enjoyable one, and even though there are some slower moments scattered throughout the film, at no point in time does it ever get boring. On the flip side, parts of the story move at a much faster rate, especially when the time travel aspect is being explained. Either way it always keeps you interested right from the start. It's also a pretty clever story and there are a few subtle instances that gets you thinking about various issues that arise from within the film.Like I said earlier, it's clever but it's not overdone. The cast is excellent with Washington leading the way as ATF Agent Doug Carlin and Jim Caviezel playing his opposite as "the bad guy" Carroll Oerstadt. Very believable performances and they, along with the rest of the cast, help bring enjoyment to a very exciting Action/Sci-Fi Thriller. This is definitely a film to watch.
