I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

a good movie. against its script. as result of smart work of Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn. and for a splendid idea who has not the right adaptation. at the first sigh, it has each ingredient to be a great film. politics, crime, love affair, shadows of guilty, ambiguous relationship, a place who could be used in many brilliant ways. and a great director. but, scene by scene, the impression remains the same - something missing. something important who is necessary to give coherence to a story who must be seductive in each detail. the good thing is the art of actors to complete the mistakes of text. but theirs fight is the perfect mirror for discover the spirit of improvisation behind the scenes.

The film opens with a string of worn out Hollywood director's clichés - the man with a camera taking a snap and we see it in black and white - and they carry in predictable fashion on to the end, which couldn't come quickly enough for me. I watched this movie on DVD so got no wide screen to help it from limping from one dumb idea to the next. Hitchcock never took liberties with film. Things always got placed in the right spot. His dramas were high blown but they never came across as that. The more you try to be clever in movies the harder you have to work to keep the audience believing it the action. There are some who consider Ms Kidman has talent. I don't and there is no sign of it here. Just mannerisms. The same goes with Penn. A truly terrible movie.

This was a very intriguing movie, the dialogue between Silvia (Nicole Kidman) and Tobin (Sean Penn) was brilliant throughout. The story takes a very interesting angle at discussing the politics of genocide laden Africa, and a different look at race on the continent. It is a movie I would definitely recommend,I found it intelligent and unique. Nicole Kidman's use of her eyes brought a lot of emotion to the Silvia character, which spoke volumes at key points throughout the movie. There were a few points where I thought Sean Penn wasn't as emotional as someone in his shoes should have been, but that is the beauty of human nature, we all do cope differently.I gave it an 8.3/10 as I could connect with the story, the acting was above average, and the plot was different. A very well done film worth the view.

I found the movie not to be as good as the majority of the critics did. In my opinion it has many flaws, a lot of details in the plot are unclear and have remained so, and even the suspense could have been better. Worse of all, the ending is ridiculous and completely unbelievable. On the positive side, Kidman and Penn both perform very well and the chemistry between them is good. Also good is the plot in general openly inspired with the history and the present of Zimbabwe, and more precisely the story of Robert Mugabe. All in all, a little better than standard Hollywood fare, but nothing special.
