Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

This movie is awesome!! Anime is similar to it. Yes, this came out before the anime. In the movie some of the characters aren't in it and some scenes are different compared to te anime but damn they're both so close! Perfect plot and actors! L's and Light's death scenes are different but Omgsh I prefer it the way it is in the movie! Love the movie series :)

I know this is a TV movie, but with the budget and distribution they acquired for this adaptation I expected much more. I felt the acting, without being too harsh, was almost laughable. The screenplay was also quite different to the manga/show. Camera-work/directing could have grabbed the viewers attention if it experimented more with visually stimulating ideas, also lack of creative sound.Pros: Animation was quite good. It was the main reason I came to watch it in the first place. Although, it was obvious at times it was done in post which very much takes away from viewing experience. I also liked the sets/locations chosen in the relevant scenes. Just needed more umph in every sense!!Because I love the show/manga I will be generous, although I felt it was very much average.6/10

Having seen the anime version first I had great expectations of this film. And indeed it was a great pleasure watching this one.The characters are fantastic, acting is great, the animations of the shinigami are well done, and the music is fine too.I personally enjoyed both Light Yagami and L very much. The build up for this clash was astonishing. The only problem for the admirers of the original anime version is the fast forwarding of the script (cause it's a movie and not series) which forces the film to make alterations to the script at some times. That was the only reason I rated it an 8 and not 9 or even 10.Definitely worths to be seen by admirers or not.

First of all: I'm not a huge fan of animes. It has been a coincidence that I've started watching "Death Note" after a friends dragged me to watch it and man, this is true story-telling! All those characters, even the more fantastic ones, feel fascinating and refreshing. True, there are some Japanese cliché's but even those appear infrequent and besides the letters and the Japanese names it all could have happened somewhere else. On the other hand side, there is no plot which is more easy and complex at the same time. There are two genius kids, hunting each other and chasing each other until the very end, where the plot even gains speed until the very end (yes, you've heard right: This anime is truly complete which means that you can watch the whole story without begging for the end later on!). Psychological games, twists ans turns keep the plot from getting boring even once. A masterpiece and you couldn't ask for more! Watch it, you won't regret!
