This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Sound of My Voice is a low budget film ($135,000) that completely did the trick. The story's ingenious and controverts between truthfulness and the art of persuasion while blending a thrilling psychology and Science Fiction with mild strokes of Romance. The film was highly flattered by film critics and received high praises mainly for making the most with little means. The cast, mostly unknowns, is exquisitely picked and the soundtrack is flawless, particularly the ending track of Hot Chip's Thieves in the Night. Brit Marling is a PERFECT Maggie! She also co-wrote and produced Sound of My Voice alongside director Zal Batmanglij and has a refreshing appearance that keeps you mesmerized throughout the film. I love her.The film has a grasping climax that leaves you open mouthed and still thinking about it after. I went through the entire roller feeling restless and pondering. I love to watch it every now and then.

I've decided to my first review on this site, as I got a little frustrated by this movie. From the beginning I had quite positive impression about it, as the movie had interesting story unfolding although at rather slow pace (which might be disliked by somebody). However, the end of the movie left me guessing about what happened and what message was behind it all. Don't get me wrong: I like stories that leave some room for interpretation or your own morals, but this movie leaves you in despare and gasping for more information (to reach some level of comfort from the viewing).

I found out this to be one of those rare low budget gems that appears once in a while. I won't give any spoiler here for it would be unfair. You won't find a dense sci-fi film but a head scratching proposal. It's well done and makes you think about it for a while. The main character is mesmerizing indeed and keeps you switching back and forth about whether she is what she claims to be or just an elaborated con. It's by far better than any pretentious big directors film I've watched lately in the sense that once you change your mind about your conclusion said conclusion will be challenged. I read it was conceived as a trilogy, well I hope it will but if not this film will stand on its own.

I can see why some would be disappointed in this film. It's not just very slow-paced, but it doesn't ever get too crazy in any of its happenings or situations, and some may find it infuriating. I do think the film could've done even more than it did, but as it is, I thought it was great. Certainly no Martha Marcy May Marlene, a film that's also one of my favorites, but it's one where the atmosphere and acting are more than enough. Brit Marling is absolutely amazing in this, such a natural presence and doesn't overact at all while getting her points across. Great performance and such a talent. I strongly recommend this under seen gem, and really, to anyone.
